Im looking into the market for getting small diaphragm condensors for overhead. i know well the two that are at the top of my list, and the one at the bottom im looking at. i have:

Shure SM81 - I've used them, they sound good, and they are expensive. vs. Oktava MK012 - Never used one, heard a lot about them, expensive.

ok so these are the top, i would have to save up some more money for them both, but im beginning to wonder how much of a sound difference there would be with a rode NT3. I've never used one, but they are cheap, rode makes good value for money mics, and im not imagining they would screw up their image on this mic. so is there a difference worth the over $250 price tag differences for a pair?

I believe you can listen to all three at a Guitar Center. Then you can decide. I would probably pick the NT3 from your list, but i can't say anything bad at all about the other two....that opinion is based purely on sound. The fact that it is the least expensive is just a bonus !

and...

i kinda forgot to say that im also looking at getting two AT3525s for overhead/ vocal use. They sound good to me when i play with them at MARS, havent been able to actually use them yet though.
