The Fact that Geddy Lee can reach 27 different octaves is very nice for him, .

and also a reason he would be considered a "good" singer..look was dylan the voice of a generation ?, not many people would argue that point but if you think that people are sitting around trying to figure out how they too can sing like dylan ...well i doubt it ..dont let his icon status cloud the issue .

Dylan himself says he was not"The voice of a generation" and in fact hated his generation and that title.

Because of Dylan's accomplishments and status he is instantly not eligible for the "worst singer title". Like I said, 100 years from now he will be remembered and most others will not. SO.... in the court of public opinion, and in past and present music history. he has already made his mark, and is exempt from the title "worst singer ever".

He is in fact one of the best singers, musicians, and songwriters. That has already been decided, years before this forum post came along.

When talking about singers who sound good in the studio but absolutely blow live there is one - and only one - answer.

Mick Jagger.

End of File.

My first post here. Congratulate me!

Root Boy Slim.

He's actually a local guy in the DC area. The worst I've ever heard live. He had a large band of about 7 people doing all kinds of stuff, and he just plain growled, barked, yelled, mumbled, and roared over it all. A big fat guy who looked like a hillbilly.

I heard that Ozzie's daughter was pretty bad too though.

Congrats to you.....

mattkw80 apparently did not understand what I said, or what others are saying.

I (or anyone else on this thread) never said that Bob Dylan didn't earn awards, would be forgotten, wasn't popular, isn't well loved by many, didn't write great songs, etc.

You're still confusing things like style, accomplishments, awards, lyrics, with vocal TECHNIQUE and ABILITY.

I wonder why you can't seem to separate those things out?

To say that he is IN FACT one of the best singers ever is IN FACT incorrect.

And that doesn't mean that he isn't important or worth listening to.

There is a difference between "the big picture" and "technical ability".

Celion Dion is technically a great singer.

To me, she is the worst singer ever.

Bob Dylan is a singer, one of the best ever.

and also ,its pretty customary to at least SIGN the negative rep points when you give them ...that way i will know how small you are for me giving my opinion . :)

Sorry Jamal. I'll sign it next time.

I'd give you one right now and sign it, but it says I gave you too many for now.

You like him very much.

You think he was an intregal part of the Seattle scene music scene, and an innovator in his own right.

However, you still much prefer Celion Dion, as she is a better "singer".

Billy Corgan - like fingernails on a blackboard. Mustaine - terrible with really lame lyrics. I like Dylans voice - it worked for the material. Paul Simon isn't much of a singer either, but it works for the tunes. Most of my favorite artists aren't the greatest singers. Simon, Hetfield, Van Morrison, Steve Earle.

I really hate the Dixie Chicks singing too. Nasally

as a footnote ..

i sorta like neil young , to me he was a bit "edgier" but i think his voice is borderline unlistenable .i DO however think he is a brilliant songwriter .

The guy from Red Hot Chili Peppers can't sing a lick live. Makes the hair on my back stand up.

Well, I also received an unsigned negative rep from this thread.

I am a very literal person. This thread asked 'who is the worst singer ever'. If it had asked 'what singer do you dislike the most' I would have given a completely different answer. Probably Axl (Axel, Axul who cares) Rose. He is just annoying with all that o-u-o-u-o-u-o and i-e-i-e-i-e-i-e-i at the end of every single line he sings.

I agree that Celion Dion is a technically better singer than Bob, but I can't stand to listen to her. I like Bob far better. (like I said about Journey above)

And really, rock and roll singers in general are technically less good than most R&B singers, jazz singers, and opera singers. I love Rock, but have little or no misconceptions about where rock singers and musicians stand in the 'big picture'. I'm not trying to piss anyone off. It's just the way it is.
