this is my appreciation post for all of you because no-one has mentioned the names "travis" "landon" or "barker" in the worst drummers thread. when i saw this thread title i thought that most of your posts would consist of the word crap, probably several times, and the only other words being travis and a dash. even if the rest of this thread is total travis bashing, thankyou for not including him in the previous 3 pages. i guess i wont be crying myself to sleep tonight.

Travis barker is a great drummer. It's his band that is crap. just really bad pop..they like to think they are punk, but listen to songs like "All the small things" - sorry, that's 100% pure, sugar-coated, radio POP Music. That's why Blink182 became as popular as they did - because their songs appealed to the masses of teens and young people out there. They are in the same category as Sum41. They think they are punk, but they aren't.

For a band to be a punk band, they have to be a threat. They have to pose a threat to authority.

What threat does Blink182 inspire in young people?
To streak? :D

i was reading in an interview in Drum! magazine last year or so and some guy bashed Dave Weckl saying that he wasnt' anything special.

Now you can call Ringo simple, Phil Collins bland and Lars a meathead, but calling drummers like Weckl anything less than amazing is something else entirely.

That's my opinion anyway.

Plus, really, there's a difference between overrated drummers and bad drummers.

Everclear is, by far, the worst major label band I have ever seen. I've seen high school bands better than them. Everything sucked, especially the drumming.

It seems Entwistle said he had to keep time because Keith would meander all over the place.

I'm not a drummer, so I can't vouch for this, but someone once told me that Keith Moon's unique drumming style (and possibly timing problems) stemmed from the fact that he hardly ever used the hi-hats to keep time and just wandered all over the kit. The speed he injected into his ankles can't have helped either.

Worst drummer has to be Tony Caroll, who was dumped by.....Oasis, who weren't exactly playing challenging stuff. Mo Tucker wasn't particularly amazing either.

Im ganna get flammed, alot alot for this, but i actually like everclear alot. They wrote some good songs for a while until the american movie albums, which were horrible, but everyone makes mistakes ehh? As for their drummer, he didnt really do anything too interesting or difficult, but i really like his sound on some songs. just my opinion, i know it sucks.

Just goes to show that the song is just as important as the drummer, if not more. Lots of people will tell you that Peart is the greatest drummer of all time - but what makes Neil so great is that he plays with a great rock band, with great material. There's plenty of people with the technical skill to rival or exceed that of Peart, but there's only one Rush. If Steve Gadd played for Rush, he'd get the same kind of (undeserved) accolades.

Approaching each song with an open mind and applying appropriate techniques to each will yield the best results. Keith Moon would have sucked in the Beatles.

ZZ top

What about ZZ-Top going from the killer drums in 'Cheap Sunglasses' to the cheesy generated beats on 'Give me all your Loving' that really pissed me off.
For some great drumming check out Fugazi's- Brendan Canty.

i agree, they do play shitty pop and they are not a punk band by any stretch of the imagination...but then again they have never claimed to be. i dont actually like anything post dude ranch, i love the music they made before they actually had travis playing for them. they will always mean so much to me as they have been a consistant factor at some very scary times in my life. unfortunately, ive was already obsessed with them before they started playing pop and realising shit like all the small things. they could put anything on a record now and i would probably buy it and kid myself that i love it.

o well.

Meg white from the White Stripes. I know this is completly away from the drummers we love to rant about, but the bitch can't play to save her life, or even mine.

I can't think of a drummer that I think is the "worst drummer". If you're out there making money and putting a roof over your head just by playng drums then you have got to be doing something good. But Lars Ulrich is the worst drummer to listen to in an interview, he sounds like a total jack ass everytime.

yeap.....theres money to be had playing drums...but Ashlee Simpson's drummer sucks ass.....he embarrased my baby mama and no one will let her live it down lol. i hate the drummer from fleetwood mac....he always seems like he's sucking wind or about to have a heart attack the way he keeps his mouth open in a long O expression when he plays

his name is mick fleetwood, and you need a little history lesson before you open your mouth and say something as ignorant as that. early feetwood mac were brit-blues pioneers, and included the great peter green. mick fleetwood has made a mark in music history from the early feetwood mac, to the stevie nicks, lindsey buckingham fleetwood mac that gave us "rumors", one of the best selling and critically acclaimed albums of all time.
what have you accomplished that allows you to be so critical and use words like "hate" and "suck"? what redeeming quality could your comments possibly have?
think before you write or someone might call you on it - jv
