Worlds Worst Guitar!

I will always remember that Barrington Fox (never heard of the company after!), the pickups were so horrible it would make microphonic feedback even when I was on the clean channel! Funny thing is you couldn't make "real" guitar feedback with it.

Trip to Mexico...age 14...got myself a nylon string pretty guitar...got home, friend that was pre-Butthead told me I should put steel strings on it, it would sound louder...I did (pre-Beavis)...guitar looked like a triangle the next day....gibs

My first bass a noname sg copy bass my cousin sold me for $50 ( I got robbed) but playing a bass with bad action is like a riff master or whatever they call those gadgets This bass made a startling return for one gig after my best friend (in a Voc tech) Defretted it frefinished the plywood body and put the nice green marble laminate pickguard on it :)

my first guitar (bought with grass-cutting money) was a sears and roebuck, that had a plywood laminate neck. the plys were pine, and even though the neck had a varnish finish, in time (about 3 months) of warm sweaty hands grabbing the neck, a spot developed on the middle of the back of the neck where pine sap would ooze........

so when i would practice scales and chords and such, whenever i would reach that spot on the neck i would just go "scrreeeoochh" and stop dead on that spot!

i learned to play around it....

Has anyone heard of the new experimental Yamaha acoustic bamboo guitar prototype? The body is made of bamboo laminate.

I read an article about it in the paper a few days ago. Yamaha is experimenting with plentiful materials that won't deplete supplies of rare hardwoods. Just like Taylor made a guitar a few years ago from oak palattes.

At a guitar show the Yamaha got very bad reviews in terms of sound quality. Yamaha responded something like "It's a unique sound that may take some getting used to". Will retail for $500.00/$700.00 with
electronics.

Sounds like a candidate for a future "Worlds Worst Wuitar".

Well. The day has come. I need some money. The guitar described above is now for sale. Own a piece of history guys.

My worst guitar...
I had one of those toys-r-us termanator guitars w/ a built in speaker (great for practicing!!...yeah). I remember it was completly black, had a strat style body with no pickgaurd and took two 9 volts. I ended up smashing that piece of shit in the drive of the garage we played in.

"but that was back in the day"-SL

A 3/4 size Romanian Degas acoustic. I bought it for my daughter as I thought it would be a good cheap starter guitar. It had a wider neck and low action in spite of its horrendous sound. Good for starters. But then a few months later the neck began to lift--actually the heel started separating from the body. Nice thing about cheap guitars: I squirted some glue in there, then took out my dril and fired two big mother screws into it with no attempt to hide them. It brought the neck back down fine. But it still sounds like crap. There's my story.

Well mine was a do-it-yourselfer. I wanted a bass but really couldn't afford a good one so I had gotten the neck from an old Hagstrom (they were lousy guitars, but had marvelous necks) and decided to take off those incredibly tiny frets they have and put on something a little more down to earth. I figured I could make the body myself easy enough but, was shocked to find out how much good hard bodied wood could cost!

I then decided to make an incredible leap of faith. Having seen this nice wide (18 inches) piece of joined pine in my local hardware store for next to nothing, I decided to give it a try. I knew pine was lousy sounding wood and not very strong but since it was “joined” pine I knew that would make it much stronger. It was only an inch thick though so I cut it in half and then glued the 2 pieces together, which worked out just fine!

You should have seen it! I thought it was beautiful! I must say, my craftsmanship was first rate for a beginner. Then I plugged it in….

…it’s still the best darn canoe paddle I ever made!
