Hey, how about Uncle Pecos? I just remembered him and his great stage presence. . .

"Jerry's Uncle Pecos spends the evening with his nephew [Jerry] just before a scheduled TV appearance. His guitar string is always snapping and it's always Tom's wiskers that get pulled to replace them." (from www.tomandjerryonline.com)

Bustin' strings left and right. Take THAT, Mr. Townshend!

WOW!
I am not worthy of your excellent sardonic techniques.

I also really like Stephen Malkmus a lot...he's not "technically gifted," but Pavement's guitar style and sound was really pretty original and refresing.

Obviously JL never heard of Django Rheinhardt .

Okay, then.... here are some of my picks. I agree that it's impossible to say "best..."

Overall: Segovia (if I had to pick)
Classical: John Williams (living...)
Shred: Vai, perhaps, but my fav. is Vernon Reid
Straight out rock: Angus.... 'nuff said, but Joe Perry a contender
Blues: SRV (can take a Hendrix tune and make me like it!!)
Hardcore: Tom Morello
Interesting: guy from Korn
Rhythm: Brian MacLeod (Chilliwack, Headpins)
Under-rated shredder: Peter Lesperance (Harem Scarem)... bloody awesome!!

Just some thoughts.... I'm sure I missed a kajillion....

I don't want to get into a "who's best" pissing contest but was wondering if anybody else has heard of a dude out of Boston called Johnny A.

I saw him in Cambridge and he struck me as immensely talented.

Oh, geez.... I can't believe I left B.B. King off my list!!! Shoot me now! I say, shoot me now!!

Phyl... check out other posts in this same thread. Johnny A has been mentioned a couple of times. :)

Chris

Thanks - missed that post.

I saw Johnny A while on a business trip and ended up buying his first album at the show. When I got back to Utah I called a couple of radio stations and told them they needed to check this guy out but no one was interested.
