Who do you guy's think the world's best guitarists are? My picks are these

1. Joe Satriani
2. Steve Vai
3. Eddie Van Halen
4. Whatever his name is from Mr. Big
5. Randy Rhoads
6. Sister Hazel's guy
7. Hendrix
8. Brad Paisley

any thoughts?

Andre Segovia.................no question about it.

Jango Rhindheart... And he only had 2 fingers on his fret hand!

I think it's a tie between Thurston Moore and "whatever his name is from Mr. Big". I'm pretty sure Ralph Machio could blow both of them of the stage.

Andre Segovia
Chet Atkins
Steve Howe
Jango Rhindheart
Steve Vai
Jan Akerman
Joe Pass
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Ry Cooder
Me (in my dreams)

4 what its worth from a Keyboard player

Nile Rogers
Hendrix
BB King
John Fruciante
Andy Summers
Larry Carlton
The Edge
Robben Ford
Brian Setzer
Johnny Marr

best is such a vague term, every guitarist has his function, and it's all so subjective, so this thread sucks.

however, here are my votes :D

Hendrix
Tom Morello
John Frusciante
Mike Stern
John Scofield

BrettB makes a good point......however, if I could only listen to one guitarist, it would be Hendrix.......he made it work outta tune, outta space, and sometimes outta time.....but he made it work....gibs

Jango Rhindheart... And he only had 2 fingers on his fret hand!

It's Django Reinhardt... and he had all his fingers. What happened was that he got burned in a hotel fire and his fretting hand got badly scarred, essentially damaging his hands so that it was as if he had a thumb and two lumps instead of four fingers.

As far as the topic of this thread, there is no "best." Why does this "best" thing never die? It's worse than Jason or Freddie Krueger.

Absolutly! for pure guitar playing there was none better!
I got to see him live a Syph. Hall in Boston.Sadly hes dead..
Jullian Bream was wonderful also..is he still alive?
So how about John Willams!
And Paco Delucia{sp}

For Electric/Jazz/Fusion I'm gonna put up a vote for Al DiMeola
For Rock-n-Roll Jeff Beck
For Folk James Taylor
For best modern stuff, I like the stuff the guys from "Radio Head" do

as for inovation and vision.....jimi hendrix takes it.....he was bending tremelo bars to get more "dive" out of them so he could INVENT dive bombing a whammy bar. Its a shame that alot of modern guitarists don't realize that jimi paved the way for guys like page, blackmore, SRV, and van halen.

he invented heavy guitar...just listen to the difference in clapton, townsand, and becks playing after 1967 (when hendrix hit the scene). it all got harder, heavier, and more flamboyant.

even the beatles rocked harder after jimi.

Just my $.02

Richard Thompson
Tommy Emmanuel
Junior Brown
Danny Gatton
Chet Atkins
Michael Hedges
Les Paul
Roy Buchanon
SRV
Jimi Hendrix

What a stupid thread!
