mixing this right now for a near future release

(or re-release would be more accurate!)
this is the original mix.....

any suggestions on tweaks?

i've already brought the drum track up, and have tweaked the snare in the new mix

Honestly listening to it, i was just thinking the drums should come up...since you got that covered I have no suggestions. The song and mix are awesome.

hey musicgeek,
thanks for listening!

i totally agree with you on the drums,
i was never totally happy with the drum level on the first version of this.

and i have a completely new DAW to work with now,
that gives me a lot more power, so i'm playing a lot with eq and compression and limiting to dial in the snare, give the kick more power, and chill the overheads a bit.
it's been a fun project for sure....

Woah. That start was abrupt!

Yeah, it seems a pretty solid mix. Did you take all the drums up? I feel like the cymbals might get a little overwhelming if they were louder.

hey steve!

this is the original mix,
and just tonight, i tracked a new section that goes in front of this mix to 'introduce' the way it is now...
and i'll put an acoustic part in front of that

and got rid of the keys!

the parts i added tonight, really kinda change the whole thing

I got no suggestions on the mix. I like the tune though. It's kinda like Jane's Addiction meets Billy Squier. Got an old school rockin vibe. Good energetic tempo too

Sounds good as usual. One thing: the bass drum doesn't seem to have a lot of presence in the mix and I think in a style like this, you want to push that envelope a bit. -The upper attack - 2-6kHz and of course some nice bass drum thump to go with it.

hey man,
that's great if the mix sits right with you straight out of the gates....
cool.
i met billy squier, back in 1980.... he was opening for alice cooper (who i also met)

he seemed pretty straight up in the back halls,
but acted pretty effeminate on stage.... i often wondered about that!! LOL

hey bleed,
thanks for the critique

yes, kick drum suggests, yes, so now i've changed the plan......
i cloned a track of the kick...
made the 1st one all low end with no fluff..
and made the clone track be all attack with no bottom...
blended those two together, and processes the low kick dry,
but added some serious compression to the high kick,
which increased it's sustain, and lets it kinda 'float' a bit, which makes it not so dead sounding.
