Can you hear it whilst recording? ie can you hear it coming through the speakers?

I believe there is a program called "MidiOX" out there that acts like a midi signal diagnostic for your computer.

Google it and see if that will help you determine if you are >actually< getting a signal...

What does "I get cubase set up and recieving a red level in the initial monitor" mean? What's the initial monitor?

Ther problem is that you are trying to record midi as audio, whereas midi contains no audio info. The little red light you're seeing in cubase shows that it is receiving midi data. Good! Now,either you want to load a midi instrument into a midi track to get triggered or you want to load a VSTi or you want to run line outs from the Br8 to your soundcard into Cubase and record the audio. I would try all of these to find the best option as far as sound is concerned. I imagine a good VSTi would sound best but that's just my opinion.

The first thing you might want to do is to set up a new midi track inside Cubase. Make sure that track is set to receive your midid signal. Then hit the little yellow speaker button on that new midi track and see if you are getting data there:)
