I been using Sonar 8.5 producer on windows xp 32 bit. Will anything change in my software when changing to windows 7 pro? I have heard that some VST pluggins will be gone or changed and i am concerned about many of my saved mixes ( almost 50completed projcts). And several on going ones may have to be totally remixed all over again when switching to Win7 64 bit. It is inevitable having to make the switch since by 2014 there will be no more support and updates for XP. i have a new hardrive and an unopened Windows 7 proffesional ready to be installed. Like i said my main concern is what will i lose if anything. And has anyone else made this change, and what have they possibly encountered? I am not going to upgrade to X1 or X2 and staying with the 8.5 interface...am comfortable with it and know it inside and out. I do know upgrading to X1 or X2 WILL change things in my song projects, plus i still likethe 8.5 workflow. Any knowledgable input is appreciated.

You will loose some VST's that aren't 64 bit. Your projects should be ok (except the plug that are 32 bit). I would post this in the Sonar forum. There is a lot of knowledge there and they will give you better advice.

I guess i could operate in 32 bit mode on the older projects then..thanks for the input!

I'd say bite the bullet, and upgrade to the X2 platform. The upgrade will cost you $100, and it's worth 5 times that IMFO. I have been using Cakewalk since 1995, when it was essentially a midi sequencer. I am amazed by the improvements that come with each generation.

Look at this summary of SONAR's 64bit environment. It will bridge to your 32bit plugins. Also, 64 bit SONAR let's you use 4GB of RAM (if you have it onboard) vs. its previous 2GB limitation. Goodbye latency problems!

Actually XP32 bit allows up to 4 gigs of ram ( Xp 16bit only allows 2 )and i am utilizing 4gigs now with a quad core intel...i have no latency issues at all now but 64 Bit will ante up the memory gigs to 8...personally i preamp analog with a mackie 24x8 thru direct outs into an Alesis HD24 for A/D/A conversion and light pipe that Via presonus firestudio lightpipe...real time absolutely no latency provided i don't place effects in headphones which to me is a no no to begin with

I've been using 8.5 on win 7 64bit for ages, with no issues. . . go for it.

Sounds good to me...i can jump from my 4 gig ram maximum up to 8:thumbs up:
Now to take the time to transfer all my files to a new hard drive..long afternoon lol

I was on 8.5 with Win 7 a while back. Worked like a charm. If I didn't already get used to the X series interface, I probably would have stayed with 8.5. I thought even 8.5 came with the 32 bit bridge plugin-something-or-other. I forgot what it's called, but it makes it so that you can use 32 bit plugins in a 64 bit version. I know X1 and X2 has it. Just can't remember for 8.5.
