I am building a new DAW and was wondering if I should just go with windows 2000 or wait for Windows XP. I don't know much about either one. Only that Multi-Tasking is gooooooood.

Well I am an XPO beta tester and I loved it but had to uninstal it when I got my audio card a few days back as a lto of Audio software wont run on it. I would go with Win 9x system right now until Win XP comes out officially and manufacturer release properly compatable software and drivers.

I used to have Win 2k.... I wasnt keen on it at all... f you have Win 2k u need to knwo what u are doing because it is not designed for the home user and as such you will have to tweak many aspects of your hardware to make sure they work correctly.

I'm still trying to find out what the hype is with Win2k. IMHO, Win98 has worked without any problems. Anything with 2K that enhances or improves daw performance?

I have heard of people who run Win98 SE without problems. I just went to Windows ME after getting a firewire card and having too many headaches with Win98.

The reason I was thinking about going to Win2K was because
M-Audio hasn't released WDM drivers for my Delta 1010 yet.

The reason I was thinking about waiting for Win XP was because I was thinking of going to a multi-processor platform.

I am not sure if Sonar or Vegas would take advantage of the multiprocessors or not though.

SONAR definately does..

I am using ME as it is compatible with just about everything right now. I was pleased by Win 2k but it has serious compatability issues with a lot fo hardware and software. Hopefully we will be sorted in a year or so when XP has been out a while and compatatble drivers and software are prevalent.

Likewise, I never had any problems with Win98SE, until I started playing with Plug-in (cheap plug-ins in particular). Check out my thread on plug-ins under "The Rack" for more details.
I would be inclined to skip past 2000 to XP, but as others have said it is WAY too early to migrate. I would stay with 9X for at least another 6 months (or one service pack) while they work out the bugs with XP.
