Hi

I'm looking to buy the PreSonus FIREPOD to use on my notebook. The requirements are this:
# CPU/Clock: Pentium, Athlon with 900MHz or higher (1.5GHz)
# Memory(RAM): 256MB (512MB recommended)

My notebook has this:
# CPU/Clock: 1.3GHz
# RAM: 248MB

Would this work on my comp, or do I need to upgrade stuff?

248 ram? hmmmm. anyway, i don't think your cpu and ram would be a problem under moderate use, assuming you run very few to no plugins. you did'nt list your hard drive and that could be an issue.

You'll be able to get by, but a RAM upgrade is really in order.

See if your hard drive is at least 5400 RPM. If not, it's strongly suggested that you record to an external firewire hard drive (7200 RPM). (Really that's a good idea anyway)

Also, is that 1.3 GHz an AMD? (Sempron? Athlon? Duron?) or Intel? (Celeron? Pentium 3/4?) or perhaps a Mac? (G4?)

His RAM is probably shared with the video card and thus the video card steals from possible RAM pool, lowering what is reported in the system specs.

For a laptop, yeah 8MB is more then enough, and it might be dynamic, not sure though. Just don't expect to play 3D games on that laptop with to much sucess.

I only have a 16MB dual head video card in my main machine and I get by just fine, since I don't game anymore, word, cubase, etc. doesn't need video RAM. Heck check out how much RAM is on a UAD-1 card, you might be shocked....if I remember right its 4MB.....just checked yeah its 4MB. Now the DSP chip on the card is 1006.67MHz, and RAM speed is 1200MB/s. You can do a lot with a little ram used the right way. I wonder how many tracks I could run with my pitty little machine that is a 1.4GHz Athlon with 512MB DDR (what do I have is it PC2800 ram, or 3200ram) anyways its slow ram, but then the most tracks I have run is probably 14-16, plugins on all of them, bet I could double or triple the track count. UAD-1 would be used up after 14 tracks of 1176 and LA-2A and cambridge EQ usage, but still I think what you have for RAM is blown way out of proportion to what you NEED, now you may want 3GB, but if 1GB is enough.....

Anyways back to the original question, I would say it should work. But do you have a firewire port on there, gonna need one of those.

well im going to get a firewire card for my laptop. ill either do that or upgrade my desktop to 1GB of RAM, which already has 1.5ghz processor and a firewire card. as for harddrive, i only have about 30 gigs
