I plan on getting a computer for my mbox 2 with pro tools le 7 bundle. I found this computer and it seems to be compatible with everything digidesign is asking for. What do you guys think?

am I missing anything?

I do plan on upgrading the memory to 1GB if get it..and it will only be 4 people at most using the computer to record...

what do you think?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16883107007

I think if you get the M-box, you will need to go with Pro Tools M Powered.

No, the MBox does come with LE... you will need that 1GB upgrade, and a second HD wouldn't be a bad idea - but otherwise this system seems like it'll work fine....

koo

alright thanx people that help a lot...anyone else got any other things to tell me before I buy it?

Cool, I am not too familiar with that set up. I just know that people complain about LE and M powered for their lack of extras.

so what you saying?

are you saying pro tools le 7 isnt good?? Anyone??

I am not saying that because I have not used it. I have just noticed a lot of complains on it. As with more LE programs, I think it probably lacks in total usability. Do a search here and see what comes up. I could be totally wrong. I happens every now and then. :)

Cool, ya I've got the old MBox with LE 6.x and it DEFINITELY lacks the sophistication you expect from the name "protools"....
But don't get me wrong, I've done a lot of stuff with it in the past - album and scoring work - and it's a nice little package bundled with the MBox. A couple things it lacks, which is why I've mostly moved away from it, is the ability to have more than 32 active stereo tracks, proper SMPTE sync (without buying a plug-in) and surround mixing...

pro tools mbox

one thing mbox is lacking is tracks...i believe it only has 32 tracks...i hate that....not enuff for me...

Man...for the cost of that computer plus the RAM upgrade (so around $700.00), on that same website you could buy individual parts and build a computer that would STOMP THE SHIT out of that HP. $699 is pretty steep for a pre-built computer with only 512MB of RAM and an onboard video card (which shares the RAM, which can cause problems with apps that utilize ram, such as some audio and sampler apps).

If you want my advice, I would say buy parts and build the thing yourself. Building a computer is not as tough as it seems, and I think the magazine PCGamer or something like that just did a huge article that details how to do this with huge full color pictures of installation and everything. Or just search online for tips, or hell... one of us here could help you out (including me) but you will get way more for your money going the build it yourself route and it will be easier to upgrade as well, than if you buy that HP. Just my 2 cents...

The Mbox isn't the one that supports only 32 voiceable tracks (up to 48 now with the add on Toolkits)....it's Pro Tools LE that only supports it. The Mbox is just a hardware device and can be used with other programs if you wish.
But still, 32-48 voiceable tracks is plenty for some people. Unless of course you're recording a 20 peice drum set, 6 guitars, 3 singers, 2 dobros, and a cowbell....32 might be fine for what you need. ;)

You may also want to look at the M-Audio systems. Almost all of them support PT M-Powered if you wish to use Pro Tools and also can be used with a wide variety of program.
However, your computer should be fine...just make sure it doesn't have any parts that fall in the "incompatible" list on Digi's site.

yep

yeah I dont know anything about building a computer..Also Im only going to use pro tools le 7 for rap music..I should do good with it right?

I also have cool edit pro 2.0 right now..could I use mbox 2 with that..or would it all come out better on pro tools?
