1. It is not neccesary. Your computer does the recording and stores the file on the hard disk. You can later burn them to a cd.
2. If you set it up as directed it will work. Do you have a software recording program?

Sound Blaster

I've got Sound Blaster. It ain't as bad as people say. In fact, for playing back it's wicked. And for certain sounds it's great. Plus, my sound blaster can record midi. What I did was I went and bought Edirol UA-25 audio interface for 169$. I use edirol only because it has pre-amps for me mics and fantom power. Plus its a cleaner recording. But, sound blaster aint bad man. I still use it to listen to all my music. or if I'm writing a ballad with just my guitar or keys I will use blaster. I dunno....grain of salt for what people say on the web mate :) cheers

Even you don't use it for recording. The dumb thing won't even record at 24 bit, it will play it back, but not record. For listening, it is fine. But you have to record something before you listen to it.

I've heard that Creative's quality for sound cards in general has gone up since they acquired E-MU. I'm not sure how this translates to the Audigy, but they're better than they used to be.

Not to belabor the point, but if the line input is a single 1/8 plug, it isn't a good soundcard for recording....and you might be a redneck.

I dont want to use this audigy any more i have got the money to spend so will be upgrading. I have an old version of Cubase, i take it that will work fine with the set up
