Micron Transport GX Laptop PC,
Specs:
1. 14.1" TFT display
2. Intel Pentium III 750MHz w/speed Step Micro PGA mobile processor
3. 512MB of RAM
4. IBM Diablo 10GB IDE Hard Drive
5. Teac 32X CD-ROM Drive
6. 3.5" floppy drive
7. MS 2000 OS

I got it because it was a good deal/trade and having something to write papers and watch movies/music would be nice...but if I threw Audobe Audition or something on there, would I have troulbe multitracking? I have a nice studio computer...I'm just thinking for on the go sorts of stuff..would there be a delay issue?

There could be, but with recording it's not a huge deal (just hit record and wait a few), but with monitoring, I wouldn't expect zero-latency.

BTW, My old Pentium 233 with win 2000 pro was fine for MP3's and movies, so a pIII should be much better... So long as you're not trying to watch somethig and record.

For on the go with (for eg) vocals and guitar, you should be okay, though it might also help to disable all unnecessary system software.

Also, the other obvious limitation of recording would be the type of audio interface. You didn't mention how you'd be doing the on-the-road recording... Firewire, USB, USB 2.0, PCMCIA, etc.

At first, probably shitty ole' built in Mic input. After all, if I wanted studio quality, I wouldnt be recording on the road.

I'd check system requirements for the software you're thinking about using.

Looks pretty limited to me, but some of the lower end software may work.

Yes, with the spec above you're not going to meet the minimum requirement of a number of current software and hardware. If you can overcome that, then you should have a decent multi-tracking computer recording set up, as long as your sampling rate stays low (like 44k).

Good luck!
