Will this audio interface/mixer work as a soundcard?

I've been researching new sound cards and came across a to-be-released combo audio/midi interface/mixer from Behringer. Check it out at the BCA2000 product page.

I'm really intrigued with this device as it seems to solve a number of upgrades I'm looking to make: new soundcard, new mixer, digital & MIDI I/O to my PC. So instead of a new soundcard ($150) and new mixer ($100), this seems to do it all for around $219 (see AMS page).

From reading the specs on the product page, does anyone know if this will end up working as a external soundcard/audio interface not unlike the Tascam US-122 or similar USB devices?

I don't want to invest in a new soundcard if this will be redundant. I've read the manual and I still cannot fully determine this.

It is all what you say it is (mixer, soundcard). It is also a Behrniger which means I woulnd't touch it with a 10' pole.

Given what criteria? By this I mean, if it's used for personal recording (not professional, paying clients), then is the quality sufficient? I did see they comply to ISO9000 manufacturing standards which does mean something. Also, they have huge distribution across North America so their overall quality cannot be that poor or they wouldn't be able to command the market presence they have.

I've seen both positive and negative feedback on Behringer stuff, just like any vendor out there. Anything more specific you can share?

Here's a post that seems supportive of Behringer stuff:

"I use a Behringer UB802 mixer. It has good sounding preamps. Actually if you leave the trim turned all the way down on the MR8 you are actually using the external mixer's pres and the ones on the MR8 are not coming into play. The Behringer UB series preamps were rated very high by a guy on the n-track message board when he tested them against many other low cost preamps."

There are various points where anything can fail...build quality, sound quality... With this particular item, I'd be careful with:

1) the drivers
2) the drivers
3) the drivers

I'm not anti-Behringer by any means (I currently use an ADA8000 and used to have some of their mixers...) but I'd be honestly scared to use any Behringer piece that requires drivers. Drivers make or break these devices. My opinion is wait for someone else to be the first penguin to test the waters...
