Will Sony ECM 959 work w/ plug in power?

I have a Sony ECM 959 mic, it's a stereo electret condenser mic w/ 1/8" stereo miniplug and it contains a AA battery. Can such a mic be used on recorders with plug-in power, or will the voltage from the jack damage the mic and/or add noise? (Now that my DAT recorder has bit the dust, it seems the flash card recorders on the market today that take a stereo miniplug all supply plug-in power. But I'd like to keep using my trusty old mic)
