Hi, I am a total noob and seek your guidance.
I went ahead and bought a Digi 002R for $500 from a friend of a friend.

I'm thinking of using a "stand alone" computer to use for Pro Tools 8. Would like to buy something used because of budget. I'm not familiar with Macs but I hear that they are more Pro Tools "friendly". I can buy this G4 for $200, upgraded from a 512 mb ram to a 1.7Gb ram. Apple Mirror drive door G4 at 1.25. Comes with apple acrylic monitor (17") and apple mouse and keyboard. Will this suffice? or should I stick with a PC.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks for any help.

Hmmm it may run smaller sessions OK, but I suspect anything larger would be quite sluggish, especially with the footprint and memory usage of Leopard.

I'd recommend squeezing out a bit more cash if you can and going for a new Mac Mini. It'll be light-years ahead of the G4.

Or even, for really not that much more money (if at all) get a decent 2nd hand G5 on ebay.

Hi, I've been away for a couple of weeks and just wanted to say thank you very much for your replies.

I'm going to look into both options, but budget will be a big factor!

Thanks again.

i feel like you will have a lot of problems running PT with such a little amount of RAM

if you live in America you can find a way to buy something that was made in this century...
