I was digging through the house the other day and I found a stereo preamp. I already have a behringer mixer with invisible mic preamps built in, but am wondering if connecting this preamp to the tape out on my mixer will improve anything.

I wont even get into the invisibility issue of the Behringer microphone preamps...

This "stereo preamp" you speak of... Is it a stereo mic pre? Or, is it actually a preamp for a stereo system? And specifics - Brands, models... We need some details.

I take it you faired well through the storms, eh?

Yeah, we got lucky- it was supposed to hit us head on , but then it moved south :)

Anyway, it is a stereo system preamp, not a mic preamp. The brand is Recoton, model sp-2. Its probably pretty old.

That's probably a preamp to hook up a stereo turntable to a line level input. Different signal levels, it will not be useful for a mic.

You might find some interesting way to distress sound with it; experiment.

 Yo Chuck:

I like the word "experiment." It's creativity which is, music.
