Will a 'proper' soundcard make it all better, and what about a Guillemot Maxi ISIS

I've been recording now with an ART pre, Cakewalk 9, OCTAVA MK219, and a Soundlaster Live 1024 which sounded OK for a while.

Now the guitar is starting to sound flat, dead and muddled. This' 'cos of the soundcard right??, or wrong ??

I'm considering getting a second hand Guillemot Maxi Studio ISIS (which can be had 2nd hand for $150 - my budget - in the UK)which, although being a 20-bit card has got great reviews and the quality is indistinguishable from a 24-bit card like the MAudio AUdiophile 2496 ($250 in UK)

what do you reckon?

Cheers

I reckon the difference in quality between those two cards certainly is distinguishable. If you want an 8 I/O card that sounds a lot better and you can't afford a Delta 1010, go for a Hoontech C-Port.

TUNER,
My budget is like, $150, (the Hoontech's $800-900) that's why I'm considering the ISIS which can be had for that here in the UK.
I don't need 8 I/O's just 2. Any ideas on 24 bit recording at that price. Probably have to be used.

the hoontech dsp 2000 should go for about 300-400 dollars. Very good value for that price (8 i/o, 2 /w mic pres, digital i/o, midi, top drivers). Stay away from guillemot. Guillemot is satan, worst drivers you can get (extrem cpu load) sample acurate sync is impossible (because of the architecture of that totally obsolete dream chip), and converter quality is very questionable.
if you only need 2 i/os, get the hoontech dsp24 value (150 USD?). you can later add the breakoutbox.

Now we're talkining. 24/96 for $150. I'm gonna start a new thread on this one now I know what my question is.
cheers
