so at my work today we had a guy come in with a Maxi Studio ISIS PCI soundcard which he wants to sell on consignment for $150 CDN. it seems pretty nice especially with the 8 inputs and the midi ports.

my question is... is it any good? i paid almost $300 for my delta 44 used and that only has 4 inputs. is it worth it for me to invest in this new card?

is there any problems with this card that other people have noticed in the past?

any info on it would really help!

its worth $150 CDN, but its not a match for your Delta 44......

try to stay away from the ISIS... it is going for about 50$ on eBay last time I checked...

it's only compatible up to Windows 98SE, won't work under W2000 or XP, it's 16bit, 48k, has a horrible latency of about a gazillion ms (70-something).
Positive side: at the time of it's release it was the cheapest multio I/O card on the market (I bought one for 370$), had a software synthesizer on board with expandable RAM (there was no HALion/Gigasampler/... at the time) and it had optical AND coax S/PDIF...

Right now it's useless.

Herwig (still stuck with one, uses it as a rack filler to impress :D :p )

Ouch. why would they even release something with a latency of 70ms? I can practically do my laundry and taxes before that thing puts something to disk.

Don't buy this card. I used to own it. It blows. Keep the delta.

Hey, it was released when all cards had +20ms latencies... those days sales depended on how low you could go... nowadays virtually all cards have near-0ms (at *least* <10ms)

Like I said: it had its purposes, but its glory days are long gone.

Anyone evr gutted one of these to use as a breakout box for a 1010lt?...

Last time I checked here in Canada, they were going for 99$. I still wouldn't buy one because of the problems formentioned.

I just bought one from Muscian's Friend for $100. I'm bulding a micro-atx sized computer around the card, having read about the non-compatibility with XP and other issues (e.g., VIA chipset problems,). Anyway, I am an active jazz musician (upright bass) looking for a cheap way to get some live hard disk recording. I want to be able to have 6-8 simultaneous tracks to play with. I considered the Fostex VF-160, but i don't want to shell out the $900 or so for it. I figure I can build a rig around the ISIS Maxi Studio for less than $200. That way I can have a dedicated computer and hard drive.

I think this will work. If y'all are interested in my experience, post a reply and I'll follow up after I get it built and try it at a gig (should happen within the next couple of weeks).
