I like it very much. I have yet to dislike anything you've done.

That said. I don't like the opening vocal bit because it's flirting with being out of tune and I'm overly sensitive to that (which is why I don't listen to my own music, horf!).

The canned drums actually work!

Good Job! I like your music. Although i'm not quite to sure what to classify it as =). Its really good though, got a nice beat and some smooth sounding vocals along with the acoustic guitar. All i can say is very nice =)

every recording I have heard from you is very clean and nicely mixed..

anything I complain about would probably be preference..

nice tune..

You never disappoint me dobro. Every one is just as unique as the last, and the recordings always sound great. Really dig the little backing vocals on this one and a very cool solo. Loved it!:D

Very nice man. Quirky and rich. I love it. Ya that drum does seem to work here too. Nice chords. I'm gonna hold onto this one. Thanks. I was going to complain about the guitar solo so far left, but then everything else came in to the right of it and it made sense to me. Very nice job!

I like this! It kinda sounds like Brazillian music. The mix sound's good too.

Also, maybe worthy of note, maybe not, but I've just listened a second time, and still couldn't pay attention to the words. The atmosphere itself is very interesting, maybe even entrancing. I like it.

Very cool indeed. I hear some tuning issues in the vocals but they only really intrude during the beginning. The guitar sounds good and I like the interesting drum beat although I didn't care for the snare? sound. Nice solo and the background vocals really made the song as far as I'm concerned. Too short! Boooo it's over. :( Oh well.....guess I have to listen again.

very clean. I wish I could get that kind of clean.
hoo ah for nylon strings! I need to look at that mic pre of yours... I can't get decent nylong string tracks because I have to crank the levels so much just to get any kind of recorded level.

JR - the room I use is pretty sound-absorbent, not a lot of reflections, and the two mics on the guitar are in close. And yeah, I have to crank the pres as well to get a decent level.

Slack - you're right about the first sung note. I listened to it through a CD player last night and thought 'nah, redo the vocal - the first note at least has to be right'. Thanks for confirmation.

Lt Bob - see comment to Slack. Also, I used Fruity Loops for the beats, and everything I used on this one came with Fruity. I've started buying soundfont samples to get better sounds than Fruity's got - drums is next on the list.

Toad - thanks - maybe the best way to classify it is 'no class' :D

B Sabbath - "anything I complain about would probably be preference.. " It's a relief to hear you say that. This mix was a struggle for me.

barometer - Cheers. If this one's okay, it frees me up to get to work on some other stuff.

Sluice - the guitars were the problem. How to make it so that each one stood out? No problem at the beginning, and I think there's enough separation when the second one comes in (panning and a bit of radical EQ), but the solo guitar bits at the end are difficult. When I put the solo out on the right, the first guitar tended to disappear. When I put it out on the left, the first guitar didn't disappear as much, but it still fades into the background a bit. Normal, I guess, considering how busy the mix is at the end, but I still wish I could keep that first guitar more present in the mix. Maybe some more EQ, or a different reverb. I hate tweaking and bending the shit out of a sound I tried so hard to get right when I recorded it. The price of a complex mix, I guess.

Joe - LOL - thanks - that's the first time my stuff's sounded Brazilian to anyone.

Wow. Really clean. The mix is really busy, and I give you credit for keeping it from turning into mud. The percussion is what really entranced me. I will read your posts really closely from now on.

I feel your pain.

Kind of has a Dylan kind of quality to it.

Interesting changes during the song. I like the shaker you have going on low in the background and I like the drums to this.

This kind of grows on you ... I wasn't sure about the vocal at the beginning but as the song progresses it actually works really well.

Nice playing.

I like this a lot!

p.s. noticed that all of your song titles are one word titles. Is this coincidence? I wish I could sum up a song in just one word. Pretty cool... :)

Good stuff Dobro.Kinda reminded me of some of Lindsey Buckingham's in your face type stuff.

Extremely well done. Your vocal has a Hoagie Carmichael quality to it. This sounds complete too. All the elements feel in place. This one goes to CD so I can listen in my truck.

Really like this melody, and the chord changes. But what's really sounding cool is the percussion...has a nice flow to it. Creative piece, good mix, great song.

Thanks, everyone, but I'm still gonna redo the vocal. :D

boydrj - some have one word titles, some have more. I use shorthand code for each song for storing and internet. Lazy. :)

Tell you what, though. I mixed through decent monitors, and yet when I heard the mp3 after I'd downloaded it from Nowhere to check that it was okay, I was shocked at stuff I was hearing. The shaker was too loud, other levels were out - I made a list of about six things to either change or check out. Looks like mp3 conversions get added to the list of things to listen to before finalizing the mix. Now let's see... monitors, two sets of headphones, diskman, shitty soundsystem #1, shitty soundsystem #2... yup, as I thought - the only thing I don't check my mixes through is a quality sound system. :D

Dobro-
I really dig your stuff. This is the third of yours I listened to & I like them all. The percussion is great. Like Joe Recorder, I immediately think brazilian-very similar to Jorge Ben. I think one of those talking drums (cuica) would really hook it up. I do, however, agree you should redo the vocals at the beginning.
