I dont know much about midi other than that i use it somtimes with Logic, I mostly use it for sound effects and noise, synthes mostly. I trigger the stuff with an M-audio keyboard.

my question is....I have one song were i used just a little midi, and the first time i open the file to play the song, it freezes on the midi parts, then once its gone through the song completely i can play it back over and over no problem

Whats up with that?

its probably better to bounce your midi tracks into audio. that way you wont get those problems. as for why it does that.... beats me..

It freezes because it's trying to send an inordinate amount of midi data all at once. Take a look at your event list and space some of the events out prior to your point of needing them loaded. This is why many midi files begin after a measure or two. The open measures at the beginning of a song are used to transmit the bulk dumps, sysex, patch information, etc. to the synth in spaced out time increments.

Computers

If it's a box or a full computer it's still really a computer & they get bogged down or buged out from time to time. If it's a computer only run the the midi program & nothing else. If a computer you might need to optimize the machine. Look at your sequencer manual or online help for suggestions.

Power fluctuations may also come into play here.
