Hey All,

EL34 had posted a guitar only version of Wicked Game a while ago which I was really impressed with and inspired me to try and lay down some vocals over top of it. He sent me the backing tracks and I used them to come up with this mix when I adeded my lead and backing vocals.

Feel free to comment on any aspect of the song, tracking, vocals, mix, etc.

I am really interested in hearing feedback on: volume levels and the effects/mix. I am trying to learn how to use my equipment and software better and every song I put out there I learn from. Thanks again for all the past advice and criticism I have received. It only makes me better :)

One note on this is that I added a lot more reverb to the vox than I usually do. The reason for this is because after listening to the original, I noticed that Chris Isaak seems to have it buried in reverb, so I wanted to try and get it closer sounding to the original.

Thanks again EL34 for the great guitar work and letting me sing over top of your mix :D

Anyways, here is my take on it, enjoy:

Wicked Game

My heart is pounding and the chills are going up and down my spine. This is one of my favorite songs.

Cincy...I am taken completely in by your vocals on this.

You have your calling.....damn!!!

You get the girl Cincy!!! :D :D :D

Great guitar playing by the way....kudos to you EL34!!! Love it man!!! You get the girl too!!! :D :D :D

Man,you have a great voice! You have that shift fom low to high notes down very well. The only thing that your performance lacks on this tune is volume dynamics. The original is sung in almost a strained whisper, thru a very hot mic.
I think you did a great job on it,but I can tell that you could do much better.

Hey Sheppard, thank you for the very nice compliment! :D

I agree with you on the dynamics part of it. It is very hard to duplicate such a talented singer's voice, and I DO think i can do better. Thanks again for the advice ;)

I just finished listening to some Chris Issak. You know what I like about this cover Cincy? You did it with the emotion and feel of the original, yet made it your own. To me, that is what a great cover should be.

If ya do much better than this, especially with that strained whispered effect Cincy, how will I be able to listen? I will be fainted on the floor!! :D :D :D :D

Kudos to doing a style that ain't as easy as it seems to do!! I just downloaded the mp3. ;)

This is awesome man! Kudos x2 to Cincy and EL34! This song is proabably x2 older than me, so that should mean something. I'm not Really familiar with the original, but I'm listening to yor version for the 3rd time ans still cannot find any obvious faults. Awesome mixing, awesome sources, awesome!!!

Hey cincy,

I absolutely love this song, I am a big fan of Chris Isaak stuff!

You have done a freakin excellent job singing and tracking on this!...My missus entered into the studio upon hearing this tune being played! Your voice is awesome dude...Honestly!

I couldn't tell you what to do in regards to your vocals, because if a vocal is in tune, in key and the harmonies are all clicking well it is great and your effort here is spot on man!
You will know more than anyone where you can improve and this tune that you and EL34 have recorded is sweet!

I love it, Goose bumps for this Gorty boy which is a good thing!
Nice playing EL34, very well done!

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Gorty :) :)

I usually don't comment on covers BUT this is pretty flash.
My only gripe would be that, on the intro, the detuning effect of the slide works against a couple of the lead in notes on a couple of phrases only mind. The slide into them isn't long enough or pronounced enough to give my brain the cue that it's slide so my screwy brain has trouble with the note.
The voice is choice.

I remember instrumental version posted a month ago. I loved it.
This vocal version is another great master "piece". WELL DONE!
Would you like to sing my songs too? :p

jaykeMURD - Thanks for the listen man!

Gorty - Heyyyy :) Again, I REALLY appreciate the compliments, you already know I think your playing rocks as well ;)

rayc - Hey rayC, I always think you give constructive criticism well and was interested in reading your post. I am not sure about the slide as that was EL34 but I think it sounds great and thanks again for the listen ;)

sikter - Thanks for the listen sikter. Your songs? :) I can't wait to start writing some originals of my own to record them. I always find myself going back and recording a cover because I know the song and am familiar with it. I hope to change this soon!

Thanks again all for the listens ~

No helpful comments...just Nice.....you guys have done a VERY good job. I think it's well mixed.....it reminds me very much of the original. This has a nice polish to it. All elements come through very well.

Excellent tune guys.....

I hope you'll do.
Then, you can build your own style. You don't need to be remembered as some guy who could do Chris or Freddie ... you name it!
Let new kids be remembered as those who could do CINCY.

Dog- thanks as always man. To sound even close to the original is a huge compliment :)

sikter - hehe yea that would be nice!

Cincy_Kid....One of the best voices here man.....

You did an excellent version of this tune, very true to the original.

Your transition from chest/head voice to falsetto is super smooth.

I am sure you were inspired by the excellent backing track by EL34.

Very nice collab guys..... :) :) :) :)

You are too kind ido1957 :)

I love doing that falsetto transition in songs (hopefully not too much hehe)

Thanks for the listen ~

Damn Cincy,
You took my instrumental tune and made it happen!

Awesome, I had no idea when you PM'd me wanting to add vocals it would come out so good!!!!!!

This was done bass akwards being that I did this as an instrumental guitar tune and Cincy's vocals were not part of my original mixing plan. I just stripped th lead guitar parts out and sent Cincy the backing tracks.

I would do the background guitar parts much differently than I did for my version. I would weave background guitar parts in and all around your great voice.

This was an experimental deal and I think you did and absolutely awesome job!!!!

I going to give it several more listens.

I would like to use your voice on some future project if that's ok?

BTW, here's the original guitar instrumental version I did for those that want to give it a listen.

Thanx guys! :) ........If I could I would give you guys a big smack on the lips! :D

Wow, thanks Gorty.
Cincy blew me away! I wasn't expecting anything like what he did.
