why use a mixer?

I posted this in the newbie section, but I think I may be able to get some more answers here...

I have a behringer eurorack2442fxpro mixer. I got it as a gift and use it mainly for the preamps when i record drums, then feed it to my fa-101 firewire interface. However, i was wondering how/why i would want to use it with my DAW. I mean, i can do everything in the software, i don't have any external hardware effects, and I usually mix 2+ projects (for music and film) at any point, which usually takes a few days, so I need my faders to stay in the same place (which a computer does a good job at remembering). Since I only use it for the preamps, i was thinking about selling the fa-101 and the mixer and just getting a presonus firepod or something...any suggestions as to why I would wanna keep it? THanks!
 
can you plug a 11 track drum mic setup into your PC?

Thats why i use a console.

Not to mention, with my amek tac magnum, the british eq's are out to lunch, there is no software that could emu that.
 
hmm..well, I don't think I'll ever need 11 preamps...the max i use right now is 7. THe mixer is just gathering dust in my closet, so i think i might just switch to a firepod...does anyone know if the firepod is BUS powered? sometimes i record where there's no outlet, only a laptop.

I was running 4 mics into a mixer and then into one channel of my delta 66. (toms and overheads) Then one kick and snare into the other inputs. I got much better results just 3 mics possitioned correctly going into the soundcard because I could edit all the mics individually with the computer software.
 
I like using a mixer because although I can control fader levels and panning and transport controls etc with my mouse, I'd much rather be moving real faders and twisting real knobs and moving a real jog wheel. It's just a "feel" thing.
