hello
Id there any reason I should not play my guitar through my bass amp?
See, I have a BIG bass amp, and a SMALL guitar amp - but I want a BIG guitar sound. Should be okay right?

Is this a joke?

That will sound like crap. Bass amps have low-pass filters that take out most of the highs and boost all the lows. If you want your guitar to sound like a weak bass, go ahead.

Plus, a 50 watt guitar amp is as loud, if not louder than a 200 watt bass amp.

Well, the Fender Bassman was used extensively by guitar players way back when!

esun does have a point though, the EQ section and overall design is going to be for pumping out those low frequencies, and it may not sound good when you try your guitar. You *may* be able bypass the EQ on the rig if you use an external preamp into the effects return on the amp though.

You never know till you try. If you're planning on recording it, though, I'd plan on doing a lot of post-tracking EQ!

I've got one of those old Bassman amps (64 Blond 2X12) and I wouldn't play through any other amp.

You would get a big guitar sound if u only used the speaker in the bass cab powered by a comparable amp... It will give you more low end in your guit.. :D

I'll never forget when I was just beginning guitar, I was at a music store checking out guitar amps. My buddy, who was just beginning electric bass, asked the salesman if the guitar amp I was playing was bass-compatable. Without blinking an eye the salesmane replied "yes - for about 3 seconds.":D

Slackmaster stole my thunder on the Fender Bassman. Things have changed quite a bit since those days though. Gear has gotten pretty sophisticated and instrument-specific.

But still ......... ?

So what happens if you plug into the guitar amp, and then line out to the bass amp ?:D

With all the 7 stringing and super detuning going on these days , guitarist might as well be playing bass anyways.
