Just curious. Digidesign seems to be a major player in the home recording space.

I love Pro Tools and use it........... but there aren't enough users around here to have it's own forum..

this seems the "livelyest" board

of all the boards dedictated to software for recording. That's why I posted it here.

Moskus must mean why you ask this in Cakewalk Forum rather than in newbies / computer & soundcard or even Dragon's cave...

....cuz we are all biased here, being that this is the Cakewalk forum, and that we have all bought Cakewalk software.:D

...and will stop buying unless TTS fixes the latency issue in their next release of SONAR... ;)

Question

What latency problems? I haven't had any problems with latency and SONAR.

cut it off...
My case, SONAR had latency problem when recording Soundfonts into wav track. Thank God I still have my CWPA9 CD, I've always had to convert any soundfonts track in CWPA. Why ? because in SONAR (I've got 2.0 XL) with any setting I've made, I mean any possible setting and tweak I made, and still get latency problem after 1-2 minutes track. I've used Cakeys for 7 years on vary product, so I know how it work. Every software has a pros / cons related to hardware issue. If you have no problem with it, then you're on the right line. :) Me...? Seems like I need to kick either my PC, or my software. I've got strong powerfull PC anyway... So...

I've used Sonar with a Live!-card, Audigy-card and now LiveSynth Pro DXi on a Audiotrak Inca88. I've never had any problems recording soundfonts as audio (although I've never tested recording the DXi ;) ).

Maybe you should lay down your traks using the Creative-card and then during mixdown use the Livesynth... Well, just an idea. :)

James, with wdm drivers, win xp and a decent puter, you should not be experiencing those kind of problems. Hell, I have a PII 400 puter running win 98 and I can use soundfonts with a synth just about, so you should definately be better than mine.

WDM drivers... that's it. That's the key. :) Oh la la... It's the Live! card we're talking about. Thanks Paul, I remember I often play around with the driver. Install and roll it back several times. Guess it screwed up somewhere. Moskus I'd like to try your smart idea right away...:) after I roll back to the Microsoft driver... but for now, I'm gonna...

Paul,

Currently I have a Celeron 466 Win98 SE. I'd be interested to know which particular soft synth you use for playing your soundfonts.

I recently bought HS2002, and when I get my spanking new 64M video card, I'll be up an running. :) Will the bundled Edirol VSC play sound fonts? If not, I'll be trying the Beta 2 version of Virtual Sampler...

BTW I originally came from a rather large city in the North of England. Some place where they have two football teams and occasionally host Commonwealth Games ;)

Ahhh....Manchester is it?;) I think I would prefer Australia somehow!:D

I use LiveSynthPro and VSAmplerDXi. I do have 760 Meg ram which helps. I am not saying I don'y have any latency, just that I can just about get away with playing s/fonts.

Until Christmas whan Santa brings me a new puter:)

Right on both counts there Paul :)

I was able to play SFs with my Celeron 466, 128MB RAM and VS3 using CW PA7. I wasn't able to record anything though. I had Grand Piano, Rhodes Electric piano, a second electric piano, bass guitar and drum sound fonts all merrily thrashing away to one of my MIDI tracks.

My ultimate aim is to overdub multi-guitar tracks and leave just drums and bass as MIDI tracks.

BTW, what type of sound card do you have? Mine's a Terratec EWX 24/96.

I haven't been able to use VS3 with my HS2002 just yet. Still waiting for that video card. Come on Santa, get a move on :)

Sorry about the double post...this site is getting so slow as to be unusable lately. Tried to delete the post but couldn't get on the BB. Oh well:(

I use an m-audio delta66 + omni sound card, very impressed with it. Plus a s/blaster Plat. Live! just for the front mounted midi connector. When I get my new puter I'll buy a Quattro which means that I can then connect that to the puter using the USB port and then supplement the quattro with the omni. My k/board is USB as well, so no problem there:)
As you say, hurry up Mr Santa!;)
