darkbluenail.....I didn't compare Crazytown directly to a shredder...I compared that song to more of a Barry White anthem than anything else. I was just stating if its good its good. There is no need to get into the social-politcal structer of music.....because its the same for automobiles and homeloans. The fact is that my sister likes Brittney Spears (I like her ass) and that is fine by me.....I don't think a preteen or teen needs to be listening to all that depressing stuff from "reel music". But remember...its an act...a stage show....ment to entertain and feel good.....you could say alice cooper was a sell out for making his shows theatric (hey....he could have spent that much more time making his solo spots that much better [hahaha]), but no one will.......and they shouldn't.

here are the lyrics to a song called Hammerhead.. It's by a band called Overkill..

Hammerhead

Feeling the pain as it rips through my brain
Twisting whats left of my mind.
Tearing the same, this blood burning flame
Decaying all it can find.
Banging your head, stuck in the dread,
Leaving the posers behind.
Powers you see, the power you need
Nerves and bones we grind.

Hammer! Hammerhead.
Hammer! Hammerhead.

Knocked to the floor, left wanting more.
Scars decorate your face...
Playing the game, your never the same
The heat is melting this place
Emotion and fire!!, you never tire
Running a death metal race...
Knife in the back, guitar heart attack
Murder, rest my case.

Hammer! Hammerhead
Hammer! Hammerhead

No one can stop, our way to the top!
No one can get in the way
Necksnapping force, taking its course.
Keeping the dogs at bay.
Nailed to the wall, giving your all
We know that you ain't dead.
We know your name, know why you came
Your a fucking hammerhead.

Hammer! Hammerhead.
Hammer! Hammerhead!
Hammer! Hammerhead!...
Hammer! Hammer!

a barry white anthem? A BARRY WHITE ANTHEM?! FINE!!! ur right in the sense 'whats good is good' but we are talking about METAL! just remember slick that YOU criticised metal calling them nazis that thought they were better than everyone else... remember that? if not then read up a little and you see what YOU wrote. oh and mr sabbath... thanks for the words of wisdom... i gotta go pop that in the cd player now...

I guess its hard for sarcasm to come through on a computer.....I was kidding about the nazi joke, that was in reference to all the I am better than you are, this is okay and that is not okay, proper and improper techniques. Basically, you can play guitar, but only is done this way.

From a personal stand point of growing up in the underground with punk, harcore, and metal, I have to say that there is a everprestent stand point that only the underground is good. The definition of a nazi is someone who wants everything/one to be the same as them.

I still think sabbath needs to calm down a little and just play acoustic for a week or two...........HAHAHA, see.....joke...laugh....good, you got it.......what...no, you didn't......Hhhhmmmmmmm

WOW I never meant things to get this ugly...I was just bored and I figured that many poeple who post here (including myself) really enjoy metal and would relate their experiences, playing style with what is going on today.

I don't listen to metal for "soul" inspiration anyway. I listen to it because I find it exhilerating, like driving a fast car or riding a roller coaster. NO other music can match it's intensity and power. Epsecialy when it involves the electric guitar which lets face it is a HUGE part of defining what is metal (in style and sound).

I consider pop to be the processed cheese of music, like american cheese, it appeals to many tastes (the masses)and pallets yet metal is very defined and particular only for those who enjoy its flavor. Being a "metal" artist myself I wish that everyone shared that same appreciation but I cant force people to like it, I am just glad that the online community is so supportive of metal, that is where we sell our CD's.

Thanks to all of you who keep metal giong!

!

Metal will live as long as those who like it are alive. Metal will die only if you let it.

I eat half digested fecal remnants

If you can't allow all forms of free expression in this forum than maybe it's time you left. This is directed at anyone who thinks that someone should be expelled from the forum.Just cuz you know someones right or you know your genre can't stand the test of time ,unlike metal ,doesn't give you the right to become a close minded assh*le.Metal is what got free expression in all forms deemed as acceptable ,society gave it labels like satanic, evil, misguided, etc...but it prevailed and paved the way for all sorts of music to come to the surface of humanity. Now just about everyhting gets passed as music.Sorry, but heavy music will bve around forever. This thread was stupid and it brought out all kinds of ignorant pricks(me being one) now I'm pisssed offf and the only remedy will be to compose blistering death metal to annihilate all those who think that it's dead.F*ck you.

Metal is not dead and it never will be. Metal has been with us since the late 60's and celebrates a resurgence every few years. To me the classic metal years are 1980-1985. But how do you define what is metal?? To me, hair bands arent metal, Bon Jovi is not metal, rap rock is not metal, shredders arent metal, mu-metal is just nu, not metal...
You want metal...think: Sabbath, Ozzy, Priest, Maiden, Saxon, Accept, Lizzy, Kiss, Manowar, Metallica, Slayer, Scorpions...
Now THATS metal...Leather, harmony guitars, powercords, big drums, pounding bass, spikes...MARSHALLS!!!
Amen, bro! :)

LocusLarsen, you really are a dumb ass.
First of all, I said "I admire Kurt Cobain for being the voice of a generation". I only think his guitarskills are way overrated, because frankly...he can't play guitar very well.

2nd of all, if you really think that "Butterfly" from Crazy Town sold millions, just because it was such a great song (harmonically,melody-wise and rhythmic), you really have no clue what the music bizz these days is about.

If you said that 20 or 30 years ago, I'd agree. I mean, when someone says "Bohemian Rhapsody" sold millions because it's a great song, duH! But Crazy Town???? No man.
Oh and just because I happen to like metal, doesn't mean I don't like or can respect anything else. Hell, I listen a lot to blues (SRV, BB King, Muddy Waters, Gary Moore), surf (Dick Dale, Surfari's, The Challengers), rock 'n roll (Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis Presley), disco (Bee Gees, Kool & the Gang, KC & The Sunshine Band, Abba), funk (The Meters, AWB, George CLinton), classical music (J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Ravel, Sibelius) and ofcourse METAL!

So don't take me as your 17-year old wannabe with baggy pants and a wallet chain. Dude, I went to metal concerts when some of you guys were still bopping along on Ace of Base, while playing with your Lego and G.I. Joe (both toys that I liked as well :D ).

So yes, metal has soul.
Yes, Korn is not metal in the sense of bands named by King Elvis.
When you ask me to name a spooky core band, I'll say "Korn".
When you ask me to name a metal band, I'll say "Slayer, or Agent Steel, or Laaz Rockit, or Saxon, or Overkill"...

As far as music styles that I don't like, they are mostly styles where the 'artists' aren't really (skilled) musicians. I mean, most r&b and hiphop songs rely greatly on the producer (Dre, Neptunes, Timbaland, P.Diddy) and not so much on the performer itself. and don't get me started on dance/house or whether a DJ is a musician. No he is not!

I never for a second was trying to expell anyone for liking metal.......

I said that because he was PERSONALLY ATTACKING people for stating their thoughts. That is unacceptable. (We've even got words for that in our democracy....its called slader and defamation.)

Calm down Speeddemon, I wasn't refering to you with the Cobain comment either...........

What is it with all these "dumb ass" and "homo" comments?

And no, I am not calling you all dumbass or homo, I am asking why a lot you people are calling other people names rather than using civil speech.

Just to make things clear, go back to the first page at look at what that comment was in refference to with the quote, then go to the top of the page and look at other comments buy the same people.

O.k., fair enough LocusLarsen, but still, I found your take on the whole Crazy Town thing a bit stupid. You may like 'em, that's not mine to say, but don't say that they sold millions, because they are such great songwriters. McCartney & Lennon...that were great songwriters. Sting, Tom Scholz, hell even Kerry King (his solo's suck, but he's quite a riff-creator.)

I Love metal and I love grunge equally.... I laugh when people say grunge sucks cause it killed metal......

Not saying anyone here said that... Just talking in general..

I almost get this vision of Kurdt Kobain Walking into a room and stomping metal out with his ripped and stained converse shoe.....

But really... You have "die hard" metal fans and you have spur of the moment fans.... alot of sales were from spur of the moment fans... "Oh, I saw this cool Ratt Video", or, "Oh, I heard a cool song on the radio today"........Now I'm a "Ratt Fan".. (those are spur of the moment fans)...They account for alot of sales..

When the next cool thing came around... (Grunge), Spur of the moment fans took off and bought some flannel and some Soundgarden Cd's.....

Metal, Say Bye Bye, then and there...

Yeah it's still around, mostly due to us die hards........but I hardly believe we will see Priest or Maiden back in the top 10.

I love Hair Rock.. Poison, Skid Mark.... Oops.. I mean Row..... Cinderella... I grew up with that shit and I love it.... I consider myself pretty die hard about that stuff..

I love grunge but grunge didn't wipe out metal ......The fans did. In my opinion..

Fans dictate what is "in", simple as that..... What the fans buy most of, is what it in.

Joe

...any band has "under 20 years" player is NOT metal band. Period.

...any "Metal" band showed on nowdays MTV other than "MTV Classic" is NOT metal band. Period.

...any guitarist can't tell the difference between Distortion & Grunge pedal belongs NOT to metal band. Period.

...anybody thinks Metallica's after Black album are metal album, urgently needs brain surgery... or Westlife album.

...anybody... Metal is not dead. It just over the hype for a while. It'll be back after this comercial...

As usual, Speed, Sab, and Vox speak words of wisdom, but I liked this the best:
