Why is it so hard to get Louder Recordings?

I found that most free plugins and mastering effects dont REALLy make it louder, they kind of squeeze it by it;s balls and you can hear this.
it starts to sound very electric, if you can know what i mean, when you try to boast it with limiters

Better to start with lighter threshold settings.

Just ask him.

yeah, then i get bullshit answers like. "oh I dont really know, I mean I dont even have this, or I dont even have that, Im plugging my mic in direct. To make it sound like they dont know anything, it;s all their magical talent.

In other words, people bullshit you. No way somebody gets so loud and clean, and not know what the hell they are doing

I see. So why even bother asking anyone anything? Learn it for yourself.

i've tried that too, but the end result is, it has to get up there in volume eventually, and once it does it clips

I use a gain with a limiter. Set to around -30 to crush anything that escapes. Then watch to see how much compression it is doing and if I think it is too much, reduce my gain so it is just hitting the high peaks. But you can crush the crrap out of it and take it to the top.

I don't think anyone's trying to bullshit you. People use different softwares, different settings etc...and conversely it's tough to know exactly what's going on with your recordings without knowing exactly what you're doing to your tracks at which stage.

I never record hot levels, im always trying to get louder with software.

Maybe you're over doing it?
Like I said....leave the "make it louder" mindset for the mastering stage.
If you keep compressing and pumping up each track in the computer when you add it in and as you work the mix, by the time you get to the end, you will have already sucked all the life out them.

There are quite a few software/hardware tools out there that will take a decent mix, and then slam it through the roof for you....not sure what you are doing or using, but it's not rocket science these days....but if you kill the mix too soon, and then try to boost that through the roof at the mastering stage...it will sound crappy in most cases.

No, trust me, they bullshit you. "ahh gee, im sure you have as much stuff as I do" I dont do much to it at all

And like everything else - don't suck to begin with. Properly tracked sounds that sound good and are mixed well will take master limiting much better than a bunch of shit thrown together and fumblefucked all to hell before you even get to the mastering stage.

well, the only thing that has worked for me is trying to make it bigger than louder, which in turn makes it appear louder. I will double guitars, vocals, vocals not to wehre you hear the doubling but enough to make it fatter. Even bass.

Seems to help

Yeah but ezdrummer for example requires me doing nothing to it

What's EZ Drummer got to do with this? They're properly recorded samples so you can make them as loud or as soft as you like via the mixer sliders in your DAW, all you need to do is get the appropriate level in the mix and then worry about getting volume on the entire mix at the mastering stage....

Perhaps you're not mixing your drums in well enough and when you try to limit at the mastering stage you're just chopping the tops off them, or there's such dynamic range between your drums and the rest of the sound that you can't get reasonable volume...

There's a zillion "how do I make it loud" threads kicking around - it's really hard to deal with specific problems without being able to hear what you're hearing. How much louder do you need to get? Perhaps you need to buy yourself the services of a mastering engineer if it's that mission critical?

it has to do with it plenty. I cant be softer than ezdrums they have one volume. I cant be louder cause they will dsitort if i try to bring them up

Plenty to do with it. I use it as a gauge of how loud I should be, never is loud enough,

You're doing it wrong. EZ drummer does not have one volume. And what is exactly is "loud enough"?

Barry, that is not true. While you don't have to worry about the source, EZD has a mixer to get the drums to sound like you want (a mixer inside a mixer), then you still may need to treat the kit for the master mix (compression to make the kick thump, EQ for snare, etc.) usually it is not much if you use the EZD mixer to get the drums to mix the way you want it in the master track.

So how are you still fucking it up? It's called "EZ Drummer". The name says it all.

ezdrummer, first of all not as easy as you think. getting it to play every little nuance you want takes fucking hours of time.

But it's not touch senstive, one voume fits all, but finding it is harder than you think

I know this. The overall mix doesnt get loud enough, whther ez drummer is muted or playing

Is your question about the final mixdown volume or getting EZDrummer gain right during tracking? If the latter, does your DAW come with a software mixer?
