Why doesn't ITB summing equal OTB?

Winner chicken dinner!
What is it that is keeping ITB summing from being as good as OTB? Will higher bit depths help? Higher sample rates? When everything goes 64-bit will audio be 64-bit too and will this help? I bet 64-bit audio would sound awesome.

I like ITB summing myself... You know exactly what you're getting every time.

All the "shootouts" seem pretty up in the air - Some swear by it, some swear at it.

Well, since I think Off Track Betting is silly, I take Independant Television Broadcasters hands down.

I think most ITB summing algorithms are fine at this point. The big disparity existed awhile back.

Traction2 now has 64bit summing - I'll let you know if I hear anything! :D

Being a newb to this, if someone was to explain (to a dummy) what ITB and OTB were, I'd appreciate it! :o

ITB= in the box. Doing all your mixing in your computer software.

OTB= out of the box. Routing your digital tracks recorded on your computer back out to an analog interface for mixing.

Thanks Alex, it makes sense now!
