Why does the NT3 exist?

Well, I feel stupid now. If the NT3 was designed to compete with the C1000s then I really wasted my money, since I already own one of those.

I've become addicted to gear also, but not recording gear so much as small instruments (like hand bells and pan flutes). They're all over ebay and I just can't help myself.

But wait, it's really easy to compete with a C1000s. :-)

BTW, not trying to insult anyone who likes the NT3, just saying that it sounds bright and harsh to me. It also sounds "meatless" and "hollow" like Peter said. (good description, btw...)
Boy, every time I come back and re-read my latest post on this thread, it look's like I'm being a smart a$$ and criticizing others who like the NT3. But I assure you, I don’t mean to do that! Just a vain attempt at being funny! :p

Let me try one more time…

Ahem….
I compared the NT3 to the C1000 using an acoustic guitar and IMHO, the C1000 came across as the more natural sounding mic. The NT3 was more bright and “pinggy” with scooped mids - characteristics which the guitar didn’t have. However, that was the only source I tested the two mics on.

There, now I fell all better! :)
