Why does garage band output levels so low?

Not a big garageband user but am trying to learn a bit to help a newbie friend out and it just doesn't seem to output any limited/compressed audio no matter what you do, also any way to see the built in compressors gain reduction during playback?

check the export/bounce settings of each..

Perhaps cubase normalizes and garage band doesnt, in your case.

It's set to normalize. The export options are very limited as far as mixdown but all set properly.
