OK. I'm new at this, so pardon if this is a stupid question. I'm using CWPA 9, Event Gina, Mackie 1202 board. I set up to record using Gina 1/2 and plug my mic into Gina channel 1. The playback is set to Gina 1/2 playback, which is plugged into the Mackie stereo channel 5/6, panned straight up. Why can I only hear sound from the left headphone when I record? When I play back, I can pan the sound anywhere I want. I have tried adjusting the pan in Cakewalk track properties...no luck.

I'm experienceing somewhat the same problem with my Darla 24 and CEP SE......can anyone help us?

I'm taking a total stab at this, cause I dont have those cards....but

Usually, multiple input cards are set up 1,2,3,4 (for a 4 channel for example) in actuality as 1L, 1R, 2L, 2R. So if you're dealing with a 2 input card, I would think that it is seeing it as 1L and 1R. There should be a setting in your software to record from just the 1L as mono instead of looking at both channels as 1 stereo input.

I could very well be wrong, but check the input settings and see if that changes things.

Hard2hear is correct.

If you have a multiple input and output card, then the ins/outs are treated as stereo pairs.

i.e input 1 is right and input 2 is left.
that is why, when you plug the mic into one input and sing into it, you can only hear it on one speaker or headphone.

If you record though, you will have to record the input as mono by telling the software to only record either the left channel or the right channel. I don't know how it is implemented in cakewalk or cooledit, but in Vegas it is as simple as choosing left or right as opposed to the default mode of stereo,

and if you can't find that, then you will have to record in stereo and use a splitter cable to send your signal into the two stereo inputs

If you just wanna hear it in both channels of yourphones.. unplug the cable that goes from OUT 2 to te RIGHT IN on your mixer (and unplug it from the MIXER)... that should bounce it to both sides.

Following up on CyanJaguar's comments: In Cakewalk you set your inputs in the Source column in Track View. Double click on that column in the track you are recording to and it will open up a window. On the window, click the pull down arrow next to entry labeled Source. This should give you several choices (e.g. Left (your soundcard) Wave In; Right (your soundcard) Wave In; and Stereo (your soundcard) Wave In.)

Left refers to #1 on your soundcard's input connections, Right refers to #2 on your souncard's input connections, and stereo will record from both 1 and 2. Choose the Left Wave In setting (assuming your mic is plugged into #1 input).

My guess (as everyone else seems to feel) is you have your input source set to stereo. In this case, since your mic is plugged into the #1 input, it will record to the left side of the stereo signal. Since you have nothing plugged into the #2 input it will record silence. Hence upon playback you'll only hear the left side, since you have not recorded anything on the right side.

Setting the source to Left, will record a mono signal which will playback in both ears.
