Like to take pictures of their guitar bodies and cut off the headstock?

Agile fans, too.

Why do squier fans buy water slide decals of the fender spaghetti logo and put them on the peghead of their affinities?

Is it because they feel all empty inside?


Don't buy into it, guys. Enjoy your banana wood Crapocasters and MDF Less-than-Pauls. Show us what you'd rather spend your dosh on than membership in an owners' club!

I gig with Epis all the time!
Have to ..... my wife bought them for me on two different Christmases ......
One's a Zak Wilde and it sounds good as is ...... the other is a Firebird and I had to change the p'ups 'cause the epis were cheesy sounding.
But they both play well and the only thing that really matters is what I do with them.
No, I don't cover the headstock or change the decals but I imagine part of that is 'cause I'm too old to give a crap about such things.
 
If I cut the head off in a pic

it's either because I'm trying to get a close-up of the body, or I'm just a crummy photographer. I don't care who knows what I've got, or don't got. (that was intentional, grammar police) In general, I don't care as much about headstocks as some (don't care about fancy inlay & all that crap). I do kinda care about the shape though. I always thought tele heads were ugly, I prefer the early 70's hook 'big head' on Strats but I'm really not that picky. I don't generally like heads painted to match, but there are exceptions. I would never intentilonally cut off the head in a pic because I was embarrassed by it.

Now, if I had a pointy-head Carvin, maybe... :p
 
Heck, sometimes I like the feel of my Epi Les Paul over my Gibson...
 
I'll be the first to admit

I could overlook the headstock thing (especially since it's not their standard one) on a Holdsworth Fatboy. :D

I played an Epi 'Ultra' LP yesterday that felt realy good, then I realized the reason I liked it was because it had that little contour where the upper back hits your stomach/rib cage. It was an unpleasant awakening to realize that now I'm judging guitars based on how well they accomodate my belly. :eek:

just kidding ...... actualy my epi lp deluxe is my #2 guitar ... and it has seen many gigs ..... it plays great stays in tune ... and those mini's scream .... probably the best $$ i ever spent .... :cool:
 
I would have bought a Gibson, but I didn't have any money left over after I bought my toob amp because guys like you said solid states suck....
 
I own both an Epiphone Les Paul Jr. 90, and a Gibson Les Paul Faded Double Cutaway. When I get the chance, and I already have the parts - Bigsby B5 vibratos, Tune-O-Matic style roller bridges and Wilkinson EZ-Lok tuners - I'll be taking both Pauls to a shop for the bridge and tuner upgrades, and Bigsby B5 additions, as well as for a proper setup and intonation with 12s (likely Ernie Ball Not Even Slinky strings). When I get around to taking pictures of my guitars (14 total, right now), I'll go with full shots, and appropriate close-ups, irregardless of the brand name on the head stocks.

Those water slide decals don't work too good with the black gibby headstocks, though. Bummer.

What actually got me thinking about it was that I looked at an old link to an estate sale for a guy I knew really well who'd been in the business forever. He really only had 3 or 4 really nice vintage pieces. He had a bunch of strat and tele copies that had big weird headstocks and slightly "off" proportions and just general crap like most guys have bought to play and then found that they were so lame there was no aftermarket for them and you stick them in the basement. Howard was no slave to any marque.

Howard was a real "player" He gigged the wednesday before he died 4 sets playing country covers. Played his whole life. And he was really, really good. Obviously, from seeing his collection posthumously, he didn't give a shit about the sticker on the peghead. He played some Peavey Predator for the last 5 years of his life because it was easier to carry in a gig bag than his trini lopez in its hardshell case.

That in itself isn't that interesting, but the truth is, I was really disappointed at the garbage imported junk that he was playing. I was hoping it'd be all this exotic vintage shit that you see porn-esque layouts of in "vintage guitar masturbator weekly". After I realized that the point isn't the disappointment that someone didn't impress me, it's that I'm a shallow piece of shit.

See? It's all about me.

I just got an epiphone es-295, and I didn't give a shit if it said epi or gibby. Big hollow bodies could be that cool "OLD" epiphone. Now if I had an epiphone 3-pickup black les paul custom crafted in korea and purchased with a coupon for $299 from sam ash online, I may be inclined to get a shadow just right over the headstock so you'd think peter frampton was over for tea and forgot it laying on my couch...

That is the other thing epi guys do. "I have a gibson too!!!"

I say "My other guitar is a very nice Strat. A corona made FENDER '62 RI. does anyone know where I can get premade water slide stickers that say Fender Stratocaster for my Squier?"
 
my no. 1 guitar is a Tradition S2000 MIK les paul. It is a better sounding guitar than my buddies fo' real Les Paul. The Tradition just sings and his is as lively as a brick with pickups. Go figure. I am in the process of getting the nut and electronics upgraded to bone and RS Guitarworks stuff so it sound as good as possible plugged in.

Mines in honeyburst and is, in my not so humble opinion, a beaut. No paper bags here!

When I retire her for another it will be a Hamer, period. I own 2 Gibsons and have played countless others. If I am going to part with that kind of cash I want to give my hard earned to a company I believe in. Gibson lost it's soul many years ago.
 
I have to confess having a hard time getting past the Epi "not-quite-a-Gibson" thing, or the Squier/Fender thing.

I would rather have an Indonesian-made guitar that's not trying to be a clone of anything than a guitar that's not quite LP or Strat. Shoot, I'd love to try a Samick if I could find a selection of them close by.

But if it's going to look like an LP, Strat, Tele, SG, whatever - then I want it to have the Gibson or Fender name on it.

I know it's shallow and stupid. I blame my parents, and the American educational system. :D
