why aren't the majority of people on these boards successful?

and on top of that... I'm sure most can determine what really is good or not regardless of their personal preference of style in music... why don't we help each other out? just a thought.

Success is measured as progress against a stated goal. Many of us here have no intention of operating a commercial studio, we just do this for fun. I also like model rocketry, but I am unlikely to win the Ansari X prize with a C rocket engine.

So what is success for me? Well, I'd like to get the last series of upgrades to the studio finished . . . I have all the parts, just need some time. Also, I produce three shows a year or so for my church/school, and I do a pretty good job.

Then there's the debut album of my rock band, seven years in the making :p

Exactly, I have a full time job in IT. I do this on the side. Never really considered making money at it but I made about $750 last month. I know people who don't make that much at their day jobs and they bust their asses. That's successful for me. I own all my stuff, no payments other than heating/cooling/beer. It's all cash in my pocket.

I was successful, now I'm not. What do you want to know? :D :D :D :D :D :D      :)

The simple fact of it is that we all can't make our living doing this because there are too many people that want to do this for a living. We'd all have to spend $1000 a month on CDs to support all the people that want to be musicians for a living.

Works for me. :D :D
In the context of these forums, I'd be glad to; a) Help others out. b) Get a thank you (or at least some damn response  ) when I try, and c) Have someone call my ass on it if and when I might happen to spew some incorrect bs.
:D

That's a big DITTO from me.

I'm a HUGE success! The song in my signature line made it all the way to #2 on the folk rock charts at soundclick! Something like over 200 downloads and 700 plays! I'm almost famous!

And, BTW, since this is the mic forum, I used a Rode NT3 for the vox.

etc

Because I like to record music and the industry has nothing to do with music.
Its like a friend of mine always says........ actually I forget something about
not being able to be a musician and in buisness.

for those who want to be successful in the industry as musicians/artists or whatever they are called now... I would think this forum would be the best and brightest (aside from the obvious few are just pests/spammers)

I have certainly gained invaluable information on recording and just... sound in general while I've been a member of this community.

Well, our little studio made it to 10 top studio picks in this latest issue of Performing Songwriter magazine, so I guess we're doing something right.

I'm successful beyond my expectations.

When I started my studio, it was gonna be a place for me and some friends to lay down some tracks and generally goof around. No thought of revenue.

Now it's a self-sustaining entity, and I'm not tapping into $$$ from my FT gig to soothe the GAS beast or buy supplies...my wife likes that part. Am I making any $$$? Nope-it's all going to capital improvements right now, but when I'm done, it ought to be a nice little side venture.

I never expected that, so, IMHO, I'm successful.

Because this is a BBS for home recording

It's a bit like going on to an Amateur dramatics message board and asking "why haven't any of you won an oscar?"

This is nice chit -chat -but isn't their a "pub" section to the forum for shootin' the breeze?
smoking or non-smoking?
