...at the grammy's last night?
Did anyone else notice that? I thought it was pitiful! There were times when I couldn't even hear the vocals. The instrumentation was fine, but those wireless mics were just not cutting through.
At first I thought it was my TV, but it sounded the same on a couple of other sets I have. If I'm not mistaken, those wireless mics were AT's.
Too bad, so sad, what a shame.:(

Haven't seen the Grammy's yet, but I have noticed on a few "live to air" shows coming out of the US in the last while, that the audio is not cutting it at all.

What they DIDN'T show was my friend and mentor, Al Schmitt picking up his 11th or 12th Grammy for "Best Engineer" for the Diana Krell album, "The Look Of Love". Now, HE'S an engineer. He's been winning Best Engineer Grammys for the last five decades!!

He's a major Neumann endorsee, although he does use other mics from time to time. How is that relevant to this forum? Glad you asked. He also owns two MXL V67Gs and a pair of MXL-603s and he thinks they're pretty nice microphones.

...and now you know the rest of the story.

I thought I saw a little "Bumper" of "Best Engineer"?
You know, a quick photo and short narrative description?
What did you think of the performance vocals?
It was obvious to me that some of the backing vocals were pre-recorded. But, I thought the performance vocals were very lame.
I really like Diana Krall, she's an amazing talent, and awesome piano player! Her stuff is right up my alley too!

yeah the vocals last night were terrible. The performances overall sounded really weak to me...the music wasn't mixed well with the vox..also the mics for the presenters were bad. I would have definately given one mic per presenter...not the little semi-omni deal they had..whatever it was. made all of the presenters seem even lamer than they were.

Good performances:
Nelly and Steve Vai (gained a little respect back for the man)
U2
India Arie (suprisingly awesome performance...she souded good)
Alan Jackson was alright...I don't really like the song

Bad:
N Sync
Lady Marmalade
Anything else i turned off half way..heh

I only caught parts of it but how could Lady Marmalade have been bad? I saw the MTV movie awards version and it was one of the best pop performances I have seen in a long time. Maybe next time its on I'll actually turn up the volume. It was kinda funny seeing all the other chicks looking hot and then Christina Aguwhatever looks like a little 85lb crack whore.

The only thing that drove me nuts was during Alicia Keys' performance. While she was playing the triplets on piano they had a cowbell playing eighth notes very loud and it totally screwed up the groove.

U2 has really impressed me over the years. They always rock live. Their Superbowl halftime show was the best ever. Although I am hardly impartial when it comes to U2.
