Hey,

I'm on an extremely low budget. I didn't want to spend more than 200 bucks (but I'll go up to 400). I want a multieffects unit. Which one is best for that money? This is my first one which leads me to my next question: How the hell do they work haha. How do I hook it up and how many channels can I use different effects on. Say I wanted to have a guitar with reverb, a vocal with flanger and reverb, and drums with echo. Can I do that all at once?

Thanks,
Matt

BEST EFFECTS??????

So, we have an effects question, do we??? Well, it has been my experience that the Alesis MidiVerb IV is a very nice, well worth the price unit, coming in at about $ 280.00 after your sales tax or shipping or whatever........ Lots of good effects to choose from, but as far as multi-effects, there are a few, maybe 10 different presets that are combined chorus, reverb and flange configurations. The real strong points are the single effects, man, do they ever rock....... I mean, you could really get close to the same bang for the buck with the smaller Alesis NanoVerb for around $ 110.00 ......... There are some really good sounding effects on that unit as well, not as many but you still have well more than enough to work with!!!!! My effects knowledge is pretty limited, but I do really think you would enjoy the outcome of both of these processors, good luck finding the one that works for you!!!!!!! Little Z (Steve)

lexicon!

mpx100 is great for a budget recording studio.really good reverbs for the price, there's even a setting from the PCM80.

if you wanna go a step up, there's some really great lexicons in the MPX range. check em out.

checkout some of the TC stuff too.i really rate that stuff.

I havent heard any low budget effects boxes that are worth anything. If you want to save money and have quality...get software. Any software will smoke hardware in that price range.

I still have, and once in a great while use the Midiverb 4. It has lots of bang for the buck. If I was doing everything over again however, and could somehow control myself from doing exactly what you are doing...i.e buying now and trying to get the best unit for the lowest price....I would try my hardest to exhibit self control until I could afford a Waves Package. Once you work with this.....there is little reason to go back to any hardware effects designed for home use.

tc electronics m2000

or lexicon mpx-1

either of these will set you back about $650.

I would say save up and use some good plugins for now.

If you really need one bad, the lexicon lxp-1 will set you back about $120 used on ebay and it has the rich lexicon sounds.

better yet, if you can get a used lexicon lxp-15 rackmount module. It sounds phat for about $250

Hey Fishmed, did you ever use the drawmer mx60 on vocals? I thought I saw a post where you said you used it on the snare...correct me if Im wrong.

JuSumPilgrim - I have used the drawmer mx60 once on vocals, but I need to play with it more to get the sounds I want. Unfortunately, I have not had the time to do that yet. I have never used it on a snare.

I always liked Intellifex by Rocktron. Super Chorus patches. Yours for around $300 new. They used to cost about $700.

That Carvin looks like it would be good bang for the buck but, has anyone used it? How does it sound?

MPX500

Isn't this unit being sold at GC for around 300 these days? Very good 'verb, but I woulld buy the waves PP1.

ebay

A used TSR24s from Digitech would probably give you enough bang for the buck. The don't make em anymore but you could get one on ebay for $100-$150. It can do several configs from mono-mono to 2 separate ins to 2 separate stereo (4) outs.

Just my opinion.

Which would you choose?

So, which of the units would any of you choose first and why?

Yamaha REV500
TC Electronic M*One
Lexicon MPX500

MPX200

Lexicon has a new multi-effect unit out, the MPX200.

It's priced between the MPX100 and MPX500 (duh!:) ) and it's worth checking out...

Midiverb 4

i use midiverb 4 and i like it alot. All FX are adjustable. Really cool different types. I also like the huge green LCD screen so you can even mess with it in the darkness of a studio, if the mood needs it. Right now on ebay there are some selling for under 100$. I bought mine on ebay for 115$, but I got a good deal. They usually end around 150$
