Who's been screwed by Musicians Friend?

MF does not price match as they advertise. What they will do when you send them the information regarding the product #, source and price is complain to to the OEM to force their competition into raising their price. I personally had it happen twice. First time I thought it was a quikiedink but the second time I knew something was up. No more! The nice thing with them is the 12 months same as cash for larger purchases but then again that comes at a premium...higher prices.

MF dogged me once, but it was a pretty good one. Ordered a piece of gear. Needed it fast, paid the extra freight for overnight. They shipped it to someplace in Montana (I'm in Nevada). Called em back again. They said no problem, we'll ship you another. Waited 2 more days, still nothin. By this time, it's too late. Gig's over, REALLY needed that amp. Called em again to see wussup, and they said they had no record of a problem at all. No there was NOT another one shipped. Well, at this time I talked to the manager and he said he couldn't ship another till the other one came back. I guess makin sure I wasn't lookin to get a freebie. I dunno. Whatever. Anyway, a week later, it shows up. AND IT'S WRONG! Called em back, bitched loudly and 2 days later got the right one and my card credited for the extra freight. What a joke. Never again will they see another dime from me. AMS, RiksMusic, ZZounds...no problems. :D

ok...I'm better now. Bud in hand.....aahhhhh......

Spent thousands from MF on probably 20+ individual orders....

Occasionally, something would be wrong or damaged by UPS...
I call them and they emailed me Fedex slips immediately, and back they went right from my porch... new ones sent same day... or credit....

Can't really ask for more... I order online almost always. On the occasions I had problems, I spoke to the reps (24x7), and they were always helpful,

The ONLY online store I ever had a customer service issue w/ was music123.com.... Long... bad... story..... Made right only after 10 calls and countless emails....

ordered an amp from musicians friend got a bass practice amp instead. got a masterlink open box and obviously used before when i paid for a new one. got cd-s smached and thrown in a box with no packing material. got a radial direct box that looked like it was a reject and box looked like an accordian. ive had enough!

MF Price match...

They price matched my Audio Technica ATH-m40fs headphones at $55... That was great.... this was AFTER I bought hem. Credited my card the same day...

I should have called them last week when I found the M-Audio 88es at JR.com for $179... That's a F*cking great deal!!!!!! (Their shipping is cheaper and service is better...)

I don't know what year they got started up but I can remember ordering guitar pedals back when the Catalogs were like a mere 20 pages. Im pretty sure it was at least 9-10 years ago. I've ordered at least 5 $100 or more purchases a year during that time and have never had any major problems. I think for the most part there a pretty solid company IMHO.

I've bought several things from them, including some heavy duty mic stands and a pair of KM184's. No problems with any of the orders. One surprise. When I placed the online order for the Neumanns, MF actually prompted me to fill in my ASCAP membership info for a 5% discount. Just another reason to join ASCAP.-Richie

No problems from MF.

8thstreet the only time i oredered from them was for a mxl 603 and mic stand. The mic stand arrived in its box with a huge hole in the side and looked like it had been dragged all the way to my house. I wondered where my mic was until i opened the mic stand box to find it shoved in with the mic stand. I was not pleased with the packaging.

Same here. I've ordered from MF, AMS, 8th street, ZZounds, Full Compass,Humbucker and BPM (mostley from MF and AMS) I ordered a Korg d1600mkll didgital recording station ($1300 at the time) from 8th Street witch came only in the manufacture box -- with a big torn hole in it. I was able to stick my hand in the hole and actually touch the unit. It has always worked fine though.

Minker, I find that totally unacceptable. To repeat my much earlier post, I had the same thing happen when I ordered my Yamaha aw16g. MF sent it only in the manufacturer's box, which arrived hanging open on a misty day. I refused shipment, and since MF wouldn't re-ship a new unit with better packaging, I ordered it from Music 123. This time, after learning my lesson, I clearly stipulated that I would refuse receipt unless it arrived *double-boxed". It did, with a protective layer of foam between the boxes.

The moral for me, which I've followed ever since: always stipulate double-boxing as a requirement for acceptance.
I figure that there's no reason for a shaky start when buying new equipment, and I won't use any retailer that won't agree to this minimal requirement. Most will.

J. Live and learn. If I was wiser then I would have refused the shipment, but I was excited and stupid enough to take the box -- lucky for me it turned out O.K. Your post is a valuable lesson for people spending big bucks on mail order--being prepaired is better than saying "I should have..." Years ago I recieved a fostex hard disk recorder packed in the toughest packing I ever saw -- I think there was 4 cardboard boxes, each just small enough to fit into the next, housing the manufactures box. I impressed friends by literally standing on the packing box -- all 200 pounds of me!!!

Minker, we all live and learn. I'm glad it turned out alright for you. I have to say that, other than that MF situation, I've had no problems with online buying.

Best,
J.

Can of Worms

Wow, looks like pandoras box was opened, lol

I won't order from MF again. I found out they have way too many complaints against them, but they don't care since they sell in volume. It will catch up to them someday. If they keep pissing off the hand that feeds them like this, biz will eventually dry up.

I had an order with 8th street that never got to me. eventually thay gave up in getting the drop shipment and refunded my money. No biggie though. I've used MF many times, never any problems. For software and hardware stuff the sellection at Audiomidi.com is awsome.

I've ordered lots of stuff from MF, never a problem. On a one occasion received gear quit after one day. Returned with a full credit with no problem.

They generally have good prices and the stuff arrives quickly.
