Who's been screwed by Musicians Friend?

No probs here

I've never had anyproblems with MF. Except I bought a guitar package and the tuner was missing. It could have just fallen out but they sent a new one anyway.
As far as this packaging issue. I live in Trinidad so however it was packed I'd never know after customs gets done. But sparse packing is good for me in so far as it saves on shipping. So for me they’ve been great!

I order 90% of my equipment from Zzounds... It supports this site too. The other 10% I get at the local shops here.

So far I've done ok ordering from MF. 8th is also high on my list of choices because some of their bundle deals you just can't beat and if you call them with a question they'll actually give you an answer.

For those of us not in the US

Sorry if I'm off topic but do any of these places ship internationally?

i dunno i liked MF till recently when they screwed me over, sent the wrong thing and then when i got the right thing it didnt work so i gotta send it back now.

Only screwup I've had by musicians friend is when they sent me an extra pop filter like a week later for no reason.... I never figured out why, but I have my theories

My old drummer once bought one six-piece set of drum bags, but they sent him SIX entire sets. He also claims that when he ordered a hi-hat stand, they sent him a computer, and his dad was so excited he kept it and bought another stand. I'm not so sure I believe that, but the bags I know for sure because I saw them all.

(errors in shipping lists due to getting a return authorization number but then deciding I didn't want to return it, and it was "free", listed as $0.00 on the invoice.... so some problem with that is what I believe made them ship me another one)

I've been happy with them so far. Have ordered from them maybe a dozen times. The one minor problem I had was fixed with a call. After I bought the Waves Masters Bundle from them I saw it at another major site for $30 less. They have a low price guarantee so I thought I'd take advantage of it because I thought it would be as quick and easy as ordering from them. Nope. First, their web based process for collecting on the guarantee was poorly designed. The sequence of things you had to do gave the impression that they were trying to create a process path that would cause you to get lost and give up. I navigated it though, and completed the refund request. Emailed them a week later when I'd gotten no response. Nothing. At 2 wks I was getting pissed. I called, ready for a fight. No fight needed though. They fixed it immediately, credited my card while on the phone, and apologized for the glitch.

Never had a problem and they let me return a dead mixer after the "10 day" limit. They deal in volume. The law of large numbers means some things are gonna get messed up. They seem to make it right.

I still try to buy from my local guitar shop, though. For starters, if they have the same item, they can match MF pricing. Second, they're right down the street. Third, they're good guys who work really hard and know their stuff.

I wont use MF anymore, they tried to screw me royally and never again.

They were fine until something went wrong (totally not my fault, the item was broken ! AND they were passing off open box items as new.... twice)

I eventually (after 2 months) got my money back though they never did refund the price of the shipping like they said they would.

Never again !

Ive ordered drum heads, guitar strings, cymbals, and probably some other stuff too. Never had a problem.

On the subject of the inevitable retailer errors and how they handle them, I bought a travel guitar from Woodwind and Brasswind's site, had it overnighted to me to take on vacation to Europe. Turned out the site's info was wrong about the nut width (I play classical and wanted the wide neck), and I needed a different model of the same brand. Called them, they overnighted me another gtr at their expense and a UPS tag to return the one I got in error, saying I could send it back after I returned. Pretty classy, I think.

Maybe the deeper measure of a retailer's quality is how they handle their mistakes.

I ordered a mixer from them a while ago. The mixer's Rackmount power supply unit's rack ears were bent badly. I called them and they offered to send me shipping labels.
I said "labels?" ... she said that I would have to send back the huge mixer along with the power unit and they would send me a new set. They treated me right, but I never got over the fact that they could not just get me a new power unit and leave the mixer alone. Oh well. In the end, all was well.

I ordered a midi keyboard...drummers throne..cymbals and kick pedal and such..What was in stock came in 4 days..the out of stock came 2 wks early and in good shape...then later ordered a bass, etc....Came 2 days later...!!!! In great shape....I don't know how it did though ,because the packing is the worst I've ever seen...I am surprised UPS accepted responsibility for it...Hope I never have a problem..I perfer to do business with my local music store though...She gives me some great deals and stands behind all the merchandise...sorry you've had a problem... :(

Bad experiences with Musician's Friend Packaging and Guitar Center salespeople with little to no knowledge pissed me off for several years. I finally opened my own store!

I haven't had any problems with MF yet. It's just hard not to order from them because they have good shit. As with a lot of people, I do have an issue with their packaging. I had ordered 2 mic stands from them. I received them quickly, but the packaging was horrible. The boxes were ripped a few places and they were taped like there was no tomorrow. I'm just glad the stands were in good shape. I have yet to order from Zzsounds.

No problems with MF or most other big name online firms. Only real problem in the past was with Music123. Ordered a wireless power supply, and they sent the wrong unit 3 times. Finally just gave up with them.

Packaging might not just be them.

I have had similar issues as decribed ablove with MF packaging but I always assumed it was due to customs checking through it, being as I'm not in USA.

I too have had issues with the boxes arriving damaged. I bought a amp from them one time and the front of the grill was damaged because of poor boxing of the product. I have done alot of business with them. I contacted the customer service center and told them I had had enough. I said I was going to start purchasing all my stuff from AMS if it continued again. Well they put on my account that I wanted stuff shipped double boxed and since then it has arrived undamaged. I do agree, we spend a butt load of money on equipment and it shouldn't arrive damaged. They are good about returns and do honor their 45 day guarantee. I have never had a box arrive from AMS damaged.

I have to say, despite the fact that their prices are higher, sweetwater really does the best job. They pack things well, have a great selection, and their customer service is amazing. The recording club I run bought a Digi001 four years ago from them, and when it quit working a few weeks ago I was able to call them up and get customer service without any hassle. The guy I talked to even called back a few weeks later just to make sure I have everything sorted out! Man, talk about taking care of your customers....
