any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated... i know the drums are too centered, but when i recorded them i didn't have but one track to work with, but i think they sound good for what they are.. let me know what you think about the mix, song, writing... everything.. thanks :D

Well, since no one else will, I guess I will take a crack at it.

I am not particularily fond of the tone of that snare, and the drums really don't seem to be playing the same song as the guitars, who aren't playing the same song as the singer. This is all over the place.

It's not my thing, it's lacking something that I can't put my finger on.

not playing the same song? that's a pretty... uhh... strange comment.. maybe it's your lack of enthusiasm for the genre that's missing. anyhow.. thanks for the listen.

What genre is this?

It sounds like someone took a CD of a post punk era Suicidal album and ran it through a mud machine.

Seriously, this is mud city. Post a mix with no effects or eq as simple as possible so we can hear the tracking. There is no clairity to the guitars or drums and the mix-picture is like looking through a broken camera in the rain while hoodlums are spraypainting the lens.

That fade is awful.

well you guys sure how to make someone feel good. criticism doesnt have to be full of sarcasm and slaps in the face. i'm running on about 200 dollars worth of equipment and you're listening to a 128 mp3.. the wav sounds a lot clearer but oh well... fuck it... the last thing i feel like doing right now is remixing the song since apparently its just a bunch of random songs thrown into one. i did all the music and i thought it was decent but i guess not. if i wanted million dollar quality i'd take myself to a million dollar studio, but im just trying to write some music that's a little different from the everyday norm, if you feel like commenting on the song itself and can listen without quality-critical ears, i'd like to hear your comments, otherwise take the hateful shitty attitudes somewhere else.

Oh brother, here we go again. Dude, this is the clinic. The purpose of this place is to get help with your mixing skills. If you want to showcase your song, put it in the songwriter's forum. Here, they pick it apart and tell you what you need to fix. This is also the internet. People from all walks of life here, and every possible personality. Don't take it to heart if you didn't like how it was said. But for what it's worth, Jake has pretty damn good ears and knows his stuff when it comes to recording and mixing. He's a little crass, but if you overlook that, there is a lot of helpful information in his posts.

Criticism good/bad, helpful or downright stupid comes along with the territory of music. You need to learn to deal with it if you plan on continuing to play/post music. The trick is learning who's advice you trust and or who''s opinion you respect.
The music sounded ok "playing wise". It didn't sound like seperate songs to me but I come from a hard rock/metal background. Maybe not the greatest playing ive ever heard but certainly not so bad as to say that you were playing seperate songs. I didn't care for the vocal style over the music. I think the vocals could benefit from an edgier style.
I wont make mix comments since you obviously dont want them.

this is a good tune.. I hear a lot of good influences.. the part that starts @2:05 was quite cool.. it's a prime example of when out of tune vocals work..

the recording is very muddy and needs a serious remix to be listenable.. I think you could get it up to the level of 'Join the Army' with the tracks you have here.. that album is very muddy but still listenable.. better to have a shitty mix than a shitty song..

Oh, you want to hear that it is awesome!

Man, if we aren't listening for quality what good are we as a mix clinic?

I wasn't trying to be a dick....that part was extra thrown in for free.

Seriously, relax, I go through as many songs as I can each day and point out what I find to be the biggest issues first. If you make it to round two, we get around to fixing some of that stuff.

I asked you to post a version of the raw tracking session so I could hear what you did in the mix phase. If you don't want help state it in the original post. Then you will never have to worry about me and my "attitude".

But my question remains, if you don't want help what the hell are you doing here?

You hit it on the head in the first line of your post, I imagine...

no, i didn't want to hear that it was awesome, the first guy's comment just really pissed me off and then i was hit double whammy with the whole mud fest thing. i appreciate and encourage opinions i just didn't like getting slammed like that. you're right about this being the mix clinic but no one hardly reads the songwriting threads so i went ahead and posted here too. im basically just trying a new sound that's alien to me, with the strange tuned/detuned vox and the drop d sluggfest. im stepping away from poppy alternative stuff and i was just wanting to know basically if what i was doing (writing wise) was acceptable as an art. i know i'm not an awesome player, as i don't focus on any single instrument and im not fishing for compliments (master shake says that's a bad personality trait). anyhow, i've had a bad day and i apologize if i overreacted.

btw what do you mean by edgier music? just curious.. hell i might try it.
