hey guys, I've been using mac since my first mac with 128k and Macpaint. I always liked them better than PCs, and as time passes they seem to be more and more similar to them. At the beginning (1980s) they were great since the learning curve was much easier, and so they were a good choice for creative jobs, been music, finance. Imagine what a good investment was to get a mac for a high paid manager, that could save you a couple of months of learning and salary payment.
I still have a G4 which runs smooth and looks great, and I don't think I'll need more power for some time. I know I could get faster and cheaper machines from the Wintel gang, but I really love this mac, mainly for it's looks and because it's easy to deal with (having the system extensions scheme is a great advantage for troubleshooting, instead of the registry scheme).
I really think that the computer industry is full of guys who hide information, much like mechanics and accountants do. And so they try to establish a grey are where you can't access by yourself and so you'll need them and their services. That's why (imo) Apple failed, because it tried to get rid of the intermediary. Of course, not sharing R&D costs also hurted them.
But the point is: why is this taken as some kind of religion war? Should you swear by a Hewlett Packard 12C calculator, and try to kill a guy who uses an IBM? It's just a tool, don't get caught on it. It won't change your life if you have one or the other.
My best case scenario is that Microsoft ends up absorving all the good things that Apple has done (in fact, one of the major MSFT's advances had to do with this) so we have the best of both worlds.
Of course I'll always like Apple logos better, and the machine is a beauty. But there is more beauty in a song being recorded in your home studio, and you can do that with any of them.
I'm in a good mood, it's almost summer here.
Cheers, Andrés
