WHO SAYS THE VS RECORDERS ARE BAD?

Hey, if someone says that if I had posted in another forum, they would have responded differently, then they obviously are looking for a reason to be a prick....its plain common sense. Who cares if he has support from every fuckin' home'rec'r in this place. It would have been much easier for sonusman to have not posted that reply at all...so obviously, regardless of how my "entrance" was interpreted, there was definitely a choice to be a prick or not...so don't give me that shit just because I don't come here regularly.

I am not some dipshit who doesn't know his head from his ass, so don't "post" at me as if you need to explain the "rules of the BBS" to me....that shits pretty lame....

Now...I asked people for an opinion and I got it...those who replied with a non-confrontational tone got a just as normal reply....those who didn't....didn't....get over it.

Don't threaten me with this "Don't fuck with certain people" shit.....I've got nothing to hide and will put my money where my mouth is!

WTF?!! What did Sonus say that was so rude? He gave honest and accurate feedback, IMO. His second post had two, count 'em, two smileys! The smiley is your cue to take it easy, killer. The smiley is the reason I ignored your first asshole comment in the "Dragon" topic.

Spend less time looking for a fight, and more time writing music and learning how to get more out of your tools. You look pretty darn silly, and this is coming from an impartial outsider.

I ask you musismanx for just one link to a song fully produced on a VS ANYTHING that you think rivals the fidelity, depth, cohesion of sound, and impact of modern day recordings done in a big time studio. Just one link to a mp3 (preferably at 192kbs because 128 is usually pretty lousy with bad codecs) that I can hear to back up these claims that so many VS users make about the quality of the VS. I have yet to hear one, and nobody has ever pointed me towards anything (I have asked this before about VS's). Just one.

The Cave can be a rough place friend.... :) I have found that many respond with vehnom in the Cave when somebody hits a little too close to home.... :)

Relax. I am not all bad. Why I don't think the quality of your tools are all that great, I DID mention that I liked the song. I also gave a compliment of sorts with "Not bad for a cheapy box".

But if you insist that I am just a prick, well then, I take back all those nice things and replace them with this comment...."May S8-N find your cat and eat him"..... :D (Although, I am not sure S8-N likes cat meat, so this may be a really lame curse on you damnit.....)

Tisk tisk....Posting the same songs under two different user names on the same BBS. Why did you change usernames? ARE we really paranoid about motives when people continually do crap like that, spam to get more download hits?

Does this all hit too close to home? Can you take the heat? If not, why you in the Cave (our BBS's kitchen so to speak... :) ) posting mp3's?

Just relax friend. Take it in stride. My comments reflect more about what I think about Roland VS gear then they do you. I try to keep comments like this impersonal, but they usually cause very personal attacks back at me. I am not whining, I can handle it. But, your personal attacks on me, and my "intentions" are a bit silly. You may learn a few things from what I say that will help what you do sound better. But, you may never get to that constructive stuff because you believe I mean malice towards you.

It comes down to this dude, you claim you were just trying to make a point about some comments made. I just made a point about some comments made too. Fair deal. I didn't personally insult you, and didn't revert to calling you names in my comments.......(you jerk.... :) )

Ed

What threat? It's just a simple fact. Now you've not only screwed up a relationship with Ed, but all the people who respect his opinions.
You're going to put your money where your mouth is? I fail to comprehend the meaning of that statement. Unless it means you are going to stuff some of your money into your mouth which will keep you from talking? And you're leaving your address and phone number? Why? Are you inviting direct confrontation? You seem to have masochistic tendencies. Run out of prescription did ya? Chill dude. You're a very talented person but you need to learn how to accept criticism. You are always welcome at this site. Just be ready for whatever opinions you may ask for because they will be from all sorts of people. Some even have hangovers and just want to chew out somebodies ass. So what? Tomorrow they will end up apologizing. "Can't we all just...get along". :D

Obviously, from the way you responded you need to learn the rules of this BBS and civil communication in general, along with how to not let postings on a BBS get to you as they apparently have. I was trying to explain to you why people posted what they did. If you are so smart and already knew that, then why did you get so ruffled when people responded the way you already KNEW they were going too? And Ed's right when he says he didn't make it personal, yet you seem to want to do nothing but spout insults and be overly defensive about every little comment. From your 'entrance' and your MP3.com page, my guess is that you think much higher of your recordings than you probably should. No inherent problem with that, but when you ask for comments in the manner you did and hear extremely honest opinions, don't take it personal and insult those who are being honest with you.

Say what you want, first impressions are important, and the first impression you gave of yourself to people here (at least in this thread under the name musicmanx) is of an arrogant person that thinks they are everyones' gift to music and recording. You did put a qualifier about the mixing, so at least you admited that you don't think you are so good at that. What response did you expect? Everyone to bow down and confirm how great you think your recordings are? No, obviously since you already know everything you would have expected this backlash in advance, so I shouldn't even ask that question. :p

Like I was trying to say before, a rough start here doesn't mean people want you to get lost. Just don't take everything so hard and feel like you have to invite people over to your house for a fight. I echo what monty said about posting the personal information. What are you trying to accomplish with that? Don't get personal, and don't take it personal. ;)

It sounds to me like you came in here expecting to knock us off our feet, and then threw a little temper tantrum when we didnt "Oooh and Ahhh" over your mediocre blueprint rock...
I listened to "All fall down" and let me just say this:
AAAAAHHHHHH HA HA HA HA HHHAAAAAAAAAA HAHA HHAAAAAAAAAAA... Oh..... HAHAHAHAHA!!!!HAAAAAAAAA... HOOOO..... shit... <gasp>
It seems that certain members of this BBS have been trying to spare your feelings by acknowledging your "talent"... You should have taken that morsel and skimpered back to the land of Generica and left it at that.
I normally dont insult peoples song writing ability unless they make a horses ass of themselves in the posts, but I thought the music sounded like a song that didnt quite make it on the last Night Ranger album and the lyrics remind me of something that Edie Brickell might have written in high school...
You obviously werent looking for constructive criticism... You were looking for a stroke-job... And your music just doesnt warrant it.
I am not one to confuse "talent" with "competence"... You play the 80's chords and you croon the worn out cliches, but theres a zillion guys on MP3.com that sound just like you... Thats not "talent". Thats minimun wage artistry.
The icing on the cake is when you refer to one of your own songs as "Kravitz-esque"... I almost choked on my drink... Youre a piece of work, alright...
At least you didnt pay a real studio good money to record that garbage.

Here's my MP3.com page in case you care to retort.

S8-N

LOL :D
That poor guy's never comin' back now.
This is becoming a tougher club to join as time goes on. Pretty soon there will be a special test and profile screening. S8-N can conduct the screening process and weed out the undisirables with his rake.

This place reminds me of the Monty Python skit:

"I came here for an argument"

"Oh, sorry. This is 'getting hit over the head' lessons"

"What a silly concept." :D

What gets me is that he seemed like he was looking for a fight BECAUSE he used a VS and because he figured "homerec'ers" didn't like VS equipment BECAUSE of the dustup with VS Planet!

Actually I listened to Sail Away and it wasn't half bad except he was pushing the bass way too hard and the drums not enough, mixwise. Yes, I could hear the digital crap in that, but it wasn't half bad. I'm not commenting on his songwriting and musicianship, just the mixing.

And I'm moving this to the Roland forum where it belongs.

...anyway...so i sais to sonus man.....you could've left that post out about replying nicer if my post was in a different forum......you made a choice to be snide...so what...if y'all don'l like it...don't respond....i have just as much right to defend what i see as a slite as you do to post one....anyway....for the folks in the cheap seats.....it still stands, read the thread before you reply....sonusman could've done it differently, as could've I.....

----got to hell

Just a data point......
I went to a Roland sponsored clinic last fall with some guy (forget his name) that had several major label engineering credits to his name (mostly rock groups). He looked old enough to have had some significant 'time in the saddle'. Anyway, he said he was the principle engineer on the demo tunes on the 1680. (Not the new 1880 tunes, as far as I know). Well if you can get past the songs themselves, and the comically overstated performances, the recording is generally acceptable. This guy claimed that the entire thing (effects and all) were done on the 1680. (He said he didn't use a truckload of Radio Shack mics though.) The guitars were done straight line in. He didn't say anything about outboard preamps one way or the other. He claimed that they were done on the Roland converters. Once you got past the initial digestive reaction to the tunes, it was kind of interesting because he would focus in on particular tracks and effects, and lay out exactly how they were achieved. I think all these were done before the MTK was around. I don't know how much credability to give the guy, but once he wandered off the Roland topics, he had some great studio war-stories about how he and his buddies had fixed this track and that on records we'd all heard of (using pro gear of course). He didn't seem out to build up himself with a bunch of name dropping, because most of the names he praised were engineers not performers. Nor did he even hint that he used a 1680 in his day to day pro work. He did say it had a lot of bang for the buck, and I think the demo tunes (as perverse as they are) are inteded to make that point. Based on what he said about general studio stuff I'm inclined to believe most of what he said about the 1680.

That's nice to know drummer, but this thread is about an 840.
Musicmanx...quit trying to analyze everything and hang with us. We like to beat people up but if you can take it you will be glad you stayed. Peace.

We're just a bunch of frustrated homereckers who want to rec some homes, Holmes.

I've got a VS840 and I think Musicmanx is showing off 'cos he's figured out to work it.

Well, judging by everyone's comments, almost figured out how to work it.:-)

My only regret is that I bought it before the BR-8 came out.

ok :)
