Somewhere in Space
I'm just curious, how many other people @ H.R.com own a Roland Space Echo, and what are their favorite applications, or instruments to use it on?
I am a SPACE ECHO freak,..I love 'em all!..Especially my SRE-555, RE-501 (same as sre-555) RE-301, & RE-201. I have several others, RE-101, RE-150, RE-200 (rare), ETC.,...but the SRE-555 Chorus Echo is my all time FAV.:D
I use it with my synths mostly, but I also use it on vocals, guitar, drums, (reverb is excellent for a HUGE drum sound)...and on some mixdowns.
I wish Roland would bring these babies back,...but it'll never happen with all the digital technology out today. I even own a couple digital space echos, the RE-3 digital space echo (which has a special tone of it's own) once used exclusively by Randy Rhodes...and the newer RE-20, which is supposed to model the famous RE-201,..but, I think it sounds nothing like the original RE-201 with TAPE. It definitely has found it's spot in my setup, though...NOTHING IS BETTER THAN TAPE!!!
Here are a couple of my Space Echos:

I used one of those 20 or more years ago, but they're pretty pricey now and many need work.

The RE-20 is close enough for me. Both sound good.

I just purchased one with a broken reverb, its in the shop right now, cant wait to use it. I'll be doing some live Dub Reggae with it hopefully. Mines a 201 BTW.

I definitely agree with the pricey and yes, they do require alot of upkeep.
Fortunately, I baby my echos constantly, cleaning, demagnetizing, and I have a nice supply of original Roland tape loops (enough to last me at least 10 more years)...Haven't had a problem with any of 'em yet. "Knock-Knock"

I'd like to have one but the price is a little steep.

I hear that!...re-201's were at a price range of $450.00 to $650.00 about 5-6 months ago,..but now,..they are commanding $600.00 to $1000.00!!!
I think they are going to keep increasing in price...
I would recommend anyone who wants one, to start savin' up their hard earned cash now,...because I forsee these things goin for $1000.00 to $2000.00 in the next couple of years.:(

I too,..would like a SPACE ECHO,..preferably the re-301..(chorus echo)
but they are just way too expensive!
My friend had one,..and that machine sounded incredible!!!

I do have a re-20 though it's not the TAPE version...It works good for my applications.:)
