I need to ask a question about how their's works. I think I have a problum with my set up???

Do you have a recording volume level control ?

Please some one.

Thanks
Pier

Yo

I have that set up...it's pretty much determined by the volume going in. There is also a Volume Control at the bottom of each fadder for that channel.

Guitar Tracks Pro (or any Cakewalk product) can't adjust your recording-level, only the playback-level. You need to do that either with the Windows Mixer or the Audiophile's control panel.

Now, is your Windows Mixer working or the Audiphile's Control Panel working properly? If you run Winamp, can you control the volume with it?

Hello moskus and Bone,

Thanks for your reply.

I did some fiddling last night and I don't think the windows mixer works. When I click on volume in the input section of any track, I get a message that says I have a problem with my sound hardware. The faders don't come up like they do for the play back section.

I went to the audiophile mixer and was able to control the input recording level there. I guess this is how it is suppose to work? I don't really know!

Should the mixer for windows work, or does the audiophile disable it and take over when it is installed?

thanks
Pier

Yes, the windows mixer should still work. If it doesen't, that's your problem. Reinstall it. If you can't figure out how (I'm not shure myself), I would reinstall the Audiophile.

Did you see any yellow "!" in the Device Manager?

"I get a message that says I have a problem with my sound hardware" is a very clear sign that Windows and the Audiophile do not work happily together...

Hi Moskus,

I looked like you said, and ther was no Yellow (!) in the devices.

That is why I am so confused, Every thing seems to look ok but it is not ok.

And I am not sure how to reinstall or enable what ever it is to make it work correctly?

If you have any ideas, I am listening.

Thanks
Pier

After a little research it seems like Windows prompted for the Windows CD and you skipped it, or a bug didn't prompt for the Windows CD (during installation of the Audiophile).

Open Device Manager. Find the Audiophile under Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Rightclick -> Properties -> Properties (yes, 2 times). In the window you should see 2 entries: Audio Devices and Mixer Devices.

If you don't see "Mixer Devices", uninstall and reinstall the Audiophile.

If you see the "Mixer Devices" click on the [+] next to it and select the new entry that just appeared and click on the Properties-button down over the OK button. Now, if "Use Mixer features on this device" is selected then, reinstall the Audiophile-card. If "Do not use Mixer features on this device" is selected, select "Use Mixer features on this device" and hit OK. Now, your system should be working...

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks Moskus,

I will give it a try tonight!

OK Moskus,

Last night I did every thing you said and every thing looks good. I even went as far as reformating my C: drive and re-installing my OS, my audiophile card drivers and Cakewalk guitar tracks Pro.

It does the same thing! The only way I can limit the recording level is by using my fader on my Spirit M8 mixer.

So let me ask you a question, should I just control the recording level by using the fader's on my outboard mixer? And if I do this, doesn't it mess up the optimization of the initial gain set up of the mixer channel?

How do you and other users of DAW's control your input recording level?

Thanks
Pier

That's what I do! I never touch the input signal in the Windows Mixer or in the soundcards control panel. You can't controll the input-signal directly in GuitarTracks Pro. You'll have to do that elsewhere, on you mixer or in your Audiophiles control panel.

The only thing to remember when optimizing input signal, is that you don't want clipping! Stay out of the red, and you'll be fine...

Thanks Moskus,

I really appreciate the time you have taken to help me!

Best wishes"
Sincerely
