For example, our son is a budding writer and a drama junkie, so we are planning to add audio theater to our studio's operations.

I like to record outdoor noises, industrial sounds, trains, fireworks, just about any odd thing I come across that strikes me. My latest thing was a natural delay across a wide inlet of a lake. About 450 ms. We threw big rocks in and wait for the echo.

Besides music. I record voice overs for radio, & t.v. commercials. Sometimes those can be a lot funner than recording music but can take just as long depending on the experience of the person doing the voice over

In addition to music/bands/demos - I do VO work... books on tape... vinyl, tape and video transfers...... multimedia for web applications... I also occasionally host singing parties for teens and adults...

I use vanbasco midi/karaoke player on pc with soundblaster.
I would like to record some songs ( audio and video ) of the KAR files, save them on HD, and burn in VCD format, to playback on a DVD. No singing in this step.
This would be a lot easier than transporting a PC, etc to family and friends.
Basically, put the CD in DVD player and sing along.
Any ideas of what software to capture the screen and audio (WYSIWYG) to a video format ? I'm kind of thinking, there should be no extra hardware, just a specific program. Know of any ?

A few projects I've been working on recently involved the hold messages for some companies. Basically it's just voiceovers with music...

The last CD I recorded had a poet reading one of his poems. It was a major challenge to get it to a) sound natural and b) get the level at the right level with music before and after (but not during) the reading.

I suppose, but it's not like being at a karaoke bar or anything like that... there's no video involved... it's much more like tracking vocals...johnnymegabyte said:

VTgreen - I used to work for a company that produced audiobooks. I recorded and edited the narration, added music and SFX. Lotsa fun. One thing you (or your son) will want to get is a good SFX library. They're not cheap, though. Doing your own foley work can be fun, but it can also take a long time.

The "Los Placebos" which was and almost still is a comedy troop that i am a member of (We've done a few performances and a couple of local comercials over the years) are currently writing an AM radio parody including an old 1940's style adventure serial. It's going to be a real challenge to get the sound quality and the foley aspects right but I'm looking forward to it. We will probably be ready to start the recording process in the Spring.

Boingo-- Do you use the sounds you record as samples in projects? Nature sounds CDs to help you sleep? Just 'cuz it's pretty cool and fun?
Ipdelux-- That gives me an idea, I have a friend who's a good poet but kinda shy about reading, maybe if we recorded him he could get used to reading and hearing what he sounds like and he could feel more confident about going to slams.

VTGreen81, be prepared to experiment. AFTER I had mixed down the entire CD and sent it off for replication, I found a site that said "Mix the vocals in the songs to 85dB and the spoken word to 65dB."
