Own a new Standard Squier Strat that I didn't intend to buy. I went to 3 GC's in the area to try out the Mex and Korean Fender Strats in the < $500 range and played on a bunch and decided to play a Squier for kicks. I'd always thought they were crap but boy was I wrong. It wasn't the best playing or looking of the bunch but certainly wasn't the worst so I made the rounds again trying out Squiers. What a shock, they were fairly consistant across the board. Settled on a Cherry Burst and after a month of playing it I gotta say I'm very pleased.

Ha! You can either be a rocker, or look like one. Not both under Dad's roof. :p

Damn straight! lol I think he was under some pressure from my Grand Father at the time. The Grand Father who had threatened to soak my head in lighter fluid and set me on fire. It was all in good fun though. lol

I love my Korean-made, plywood-bodied Squier Strat
Don't ya mean laminated hardwood? Okay...yeah...so it's FMIC's attempt to be fancy about it, in their guitar descriptions, but at least some of us actually know what laminated hardwood is. ;)

Mine sucked

I had a Squier Tele with the two humbuckers and four knobs. It looked cool, played okay, but sounded like dung ( real quiet, cheapo pickups) and refused to stay in tune just from strumming, nevermind bends. I traded it in for a Mexican Tele, a sunburst 72 Thinline, also with 2 humbuckers. I've heard many people say that Mexi Fenders suck, but I've had two ( the other was a Fat Strat or Tex Mex I think - it had a bridge humbucker and two singles, all of which I replaced with Hot Rails) and both were/are very cool. Still have the Thinline, it's awesome. With most guitars, but it seems especially with Fenders, there is a huge difference from model to model, guitar to guitar. I've played at least a half dozen Thinlines that sucked. Also owned a Mexi Nashville Tele - it played and sounded great, but had to trade it to get my bass player a G&L. Since he gave me the Thinline, it was only fair.

I've never owned a Squire, but I have a Fernandez Strat copy that is the best playing and recording guitar I own, and that includes a Gibson les Paul, Epi Sheraton 2, and a Fender Strat. I pretty sure the Fernandez was made in Japan, has a basswood body and its louder than the Paul, really odd for a bolt on I think.
From the moment I saw it on the rack in the store I wanted it, as soon as I played it I had to take it home!

It seems that many Japan guitars are sweet. I've owned/played many Fender Jap models, and they were really nice. I still think it's all individual tho - each guitar is it's own thing.

My Squire Strat is an old one. I think it's an early eighties model and I like it better than 99% of the American Strats I've played.

I have a Japanese Squire Strat...

circa, 1986 and it is a wonderful guitar! It also holds company with an American Standard Strat, Gibson Les Paul, Gibson ES 135, Gibson ES 175, PRS SE, G&L ASAT. I was going to trade it in some time ago, but just could not bring myself to doing it. I still play and record with it!

I've got a Squier Tele Custom - looks like the 72 Tele Deluxe with Gibson Les Paul controls.

It has a big fat neck. Poster above said the pickups are lower output and I'd agree, but the bridge pickup has a nasty, searing, knife-sharp treble that I can't get enough of.

I bought it as a decent playable guitar to practice to death. It is what it is. It's taking on an authentic relic job from being played to death.

Squires

I'm a drummer, but I own a couple of Squire axes and everybody who has played them loves them...

I have a 1993 +/- made in Korea Telecaster, and a 2002 +/- made in China Precision bass.

I refused to play squires for pretty much me whole life. Then about four months ago I borrowed my drummer's $100 telecaster/esquire hybrid. It is totally badass. I have no shame no longer. I actually prefer it these days over my g&l invader.

But I would never tell her that to her face... She would cry.

Ithink they are a good guitar for the money. I had an affinity tele- looked nice, played nice, sounded nice....problem was it just wouldnt cut it when used in a band situation...just didnt carry.:(
