you are completely right, the drummer i hate the most is sheila white (and i dont know if i spelled that right) from the white stripes, i mean for godsakes ,what does it take to become famous these days .

Tony Royster=SUX....although talented, I dislike him b/c I bet his talent is forced and not genuine. That little turd just can't be as good as players with 10-15 years experience!
I also hate "double-bass turds"OR drummers that think DB ALWAYS sounds good. :p

That sounds like me driving. I can get lost going through the McDonalds drive through. I'm too poor to have onstar or anything like that, I have the "old fashion" map in my car and have to use it pretty regularly.
 
whoever said that the drummer from the white stripes is the worst, owns it all. that chick is beyond horrible and for some reason the band actually gets a lot of attention.

lars ulrich is beyond horrible as well, i think i could play better than him and I can't even keep a steady beat. After St. Anger, i came to the realization that there is no hope for him and his exagerated playing style. When he plays he tries to act as if it takes a great amount of talent to do what he's doing.
 
No offense to any newbie drummers. And I did this when I was younger just starting out, so I really can't say too much about it.

But I hate it when you can tell that a drummer is counting. I used to whisper "1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4, chorus 2 3 4, etc....." When I saw a tape of my band playing, I was beyond embarssed. And ever since then, I really notice it when somebody is doing that.

I've done this on guitar when playing to a click, and just trying to put something down. It ends up sounding very mechanical, and I have to wonder who the moron is that did it.....Oh...that would be me.... :(

I'm a newbie drummer, and I find that using the ride or hi hat is much simpler than counting. Usually the drum set exercises are simple, unless its latin. The snare drum book is confusing, thats when I count. But trying to count out 16th note triplets and triplets and dotted notes is too confusing. I just practice it until it sounds the way my drum teacher played it. I dont count unless I'm really lost, which is pretty rare.
 
I stopped counting a while back.... The most important lesson I've learned (drum wise) is to play what I'm comfortable with. Everytime I try to go "all out" on a song, I really regret it.....

I'd much rather hear a steady contanst medium talent drummer than a spastic show off that messes up a lot. On any given day, I can be either one of thoose drummers lol.

Sometimes you have to count! I won't do it for regular beats (4/4, 3/4, 6/8, 12/8 or even 7/8), but if it's something like 9/8 or 13/8 I will. You only have to do it for a while until you get the shift changes. Usually you can group everything into 2's and 3's.

I'm honestly not trying to be a smartass. But do you have anything recorded in 13/8? I can't even imagine what that sounds like.

I know Tool has some songs in weird time signatures, but 13/8????

Seriously, I'm not being a smart ass. I've really got to hear this.

I don't have any recordings of me, (well, I do, but on really old beat up cassettes). I have some CD's of Simon Phillips that have 11/8, 13/8 and some others. I have a tape of a peice I helped Simon with that has a middle section in 21/8. Simon has a peice he plays on the video "Simon Phillips Returns" that is in 33/8. Crazy stuff! I see if I can make up some samples.
 
Please do. I'm seriously very interested. Anything besides 3/4, 4/4, or 6/8 just confuses the hell out of me...... I played punk rock for like 5 years, and I was so confused when I tried to play different styles.... Thanks man :D
