kinda wish the electric guitars (especially the one on left) aren't so compressed. I think it will sound a lot better if they had more 'openess' to them. Nice sounding bass tho.

I really like what you're doing with the strings, just fill in little gaps here and there, but an electric guitar with expression pedal might do the job better, I dunno, maybe the synth just sounds too un-natural.

This song is really cool regardless. It has that ambient feeling (New Age?) without using excessive space-synth patches. I am surprised that you created this mood with mainly traditional instruments. Good job!!

Finally, the site isn't congested..

Nice tones in the intro. Awkward moment of "repositioning" from the right-channel guitar at :30. OK, let me pause it for a second at the 1:00. I would normally listen all the way through, but here some initial thoughts. The rests/sustain of the right channel give me this incomplete lop-sided feeling about the intro. I find myself wanting you to play the same rhythm in both channels. If you're picking in the left, I want to hear it in the right (except at the end of the whole phrase where the left plays a couple notes alone). That's me anyway...and I'm pretty sure I'm not being very clear. So unless you know what I mean and agree, leave it the hell alone! :)

Nice bass entry. Beautiful tone that warms the mix up nicely.

What's that clicking/crackling sound at 2:15 through about 2:18? I think it's intentional because it's in stereo...

I'd like a little more definition in the vocals. Having trouble making out the words. For most, I don't care about that. But I like your lyrics. Maybe just a level boost of 1-2dB's would do it. As instruments, the vocals are mixed nicely. As story tellers, they need more clarity.

I think the string synth at the end is too loud.

OK...done bitching. The reason I'm bitching is because I think this is another GREAT piece of music. Looking forward to mix 2.

That bass sounds nice and full and very, very even. It's too even, so much so that I'm tempted to ask. Is it a keyboard bass? It sounds great either way but I just was curious. If it was a stringed bass please share what you were doing.

Personally i'd like to see the tempo on this come up just a shade, maybe a few more b.p.m. but that could be just personal taste. I'd say a lot of the strength lies in the beginning don't cut it.

One of the main problems with "commercial" music is the fact that that make you get in and out in 3 1/2 minutes, straight to the point or else........

this build is great...keep it.......

song is very well recorded as usual......

id say that bass fits the mood and vibe of the tune......in another piece it would be consider "too even" but it fits this like a friggin glove.......

Sweet song,guitars were really nice.

I love the vibe of this,has a good feel to it.

I just thought the keys took away a little from the fine clear sound of everthing else.
I think it's the reverb on them,everthing else is more upfront.

It wasn't until I listened to the mp3 of this that I heard how the synth was too loud. I'm still learning my monitors.

I'm glad most people thought the long intro was okay - a minute and half intro before the vocals start in requires a bit of patience for someone raised on pop music.

The bass? It's my Ibanez bass. My biggest problem with that bass is that the tone control has a very narrow range of what I feel is acceptable sound. It's really easy to get a sound that's too bassy, and twice as easy to get a sound that's too trebly. I find I like more treble in the bass sound on tunes that have only acoustic guitar. It's hard for me to find the right tone on tunes that have both e guitar and a guitar. Anyway, last week Sluice PM'ed me some ideas about dealing with lower mids in the mix, something I'd never attended to much before. So for this mix, I decided I liked the bass tone and wanted it to stand forward in that region, so I cut stuff in that zone from other tracks, starting with the vocals. I compressed it a bit also, but not more than anything else.

The real difficulty in this one was dealing with five guitars at some points, plus the synth strings and synth keys. EVERYTHING overlapping. Damn. Like I said, remind me to avoid using so many guitars on the same tune. I'll be thinking about this the next time I start arranging something new. Simple arrangement = good. Instruments with clearly different ranges = good.

Nice tight bass sound there. I think I agree that it would be nice to hear a little more "breathing" on the guitars. A *bit* too much compression for me, I think.

I think I'd like the higher harmony vox lower in the mix. I'd like the main vox to be distinctly in front and have that high harmony back aways.

As far as the intro, I think you could shorten it a little, but between keeping it and ditching it I'd definitely keep it. Probably if I had my way I'd shorten it by maybe a third.

Man, this is a cool tune. Reminds me of some kinda psychedelic snake charmer tune. I can almost see the 60s cartoon music video with a cloud of snake-shaped smoke raising out of the hooka pipe...:)

Great tune. I'd like to hear a little less compression all the way around I think.

not up for a long reply tonight so re-read sluice's 2x.

I definitely liked the tune but thought some of the higher vocals could have been stronger.. lower the strings especially in the outro.. very nice bass sound. guitar sounds very tight in the beginning.. almost too tight in sound.

I won't cover any mix comments here but, I will say I truly liked this track!

It had a lot of weird and nice things going on in it and I enjoyed the "building block" approach you used to build this puppy up, one sound at a time.

The vocals were hard to follow along with but, I got the feeling they were designed to just be another flavour in the sound as apposed to being the true focus of it.

This is really creativity at its best in many respects. I can see you thinking purely of the parts and what Carma they put into the piece rather then concentrating on silly things like eq, level and reverb. This is a true expressionists piece and I admire it for what it is!

I like the song as is with two exceptions. The synths are too loud first off which you have already realized. Secondly, the synths and the string pad could use a shorter attack and the LFO is a bit much. I feel a bit of big reverb could help here with the strings mixed further back and twiddling with the attack. My two bits. Cool tune, well executed and very nice work!

Yes, I like this building very much.

It's nice to hear a clean exposed bass line, this one sounds very fun, like a nice guy. Good quality bass solo and sound.

The drum seems a bit heavy, but when the vocal comes in it makes sense.

The drum is a bit heavy, your vocal register is lower here, so it's easier to get lost in the 'mix of the mids'.

Maybe this particular drum sample is just a bit too aggressive.

I like your wierdo backp vocal ... :D

String entrances are a touch to loud.

Now, I LIKE the musical material at 2:56 and continuing, but the guitar here is very cool, and might sound better ... over those strings, or trading back and forth over volume levels.

At 03:30, then I'd let the strings shine, and then bring them way, way down for the vocal.

And continue to bring all instruments down until 04:40 ... exposing the 'chant' ... then bring the instruments back in a bit.

The strings are toooooo loud :D ...

When you gonna pick one of your tunes for me to do strings on ?

i've been listening to too much of that music that Gidge was talking about because I was uncomfortable with the 1 and a half minute intro. It's nice if you got time and the patience to listen. Keep it.

This is a nice relaxing song dobro.

The strings are, however, too loud.

I had a chance to listen to this one yesterday and I really like the sound of it.

It looks like you already have tons of feedback regarding the synth and volume. One thing I noticed, and maybe it was just playing this on my crappy computer speakers, was the vocal starts out very loud in the mix, but as the song progresses there are a few spots where the volume goes down and seems a bit hard to make out...probably just me though if nobody else has mentioned it.

I dig the long beginning. It gets you in the mood for the song.

Dobro, you know I 'm a huge fan and THIS is reaching new hieghts for you. Your growth in songwriting and production is something to keep an eye on for all of us.
