Spin,

All I'll say is what I've said already. I HOPE this isn't the case, but from what you're saying we'll see soon enough.

Mr. Rd423
Yeeaaahhh ,I agree with you a little , about 0% . Even the Grammy's (Producer of the year) Dr. DRE depends on his own personal Engineer ,to make his music sound the way he wants it.

Quoted by Maurico Iragorri from EQ magizine Vol 12 Issue #6(Dre on Front cover).

MI: Dre wants me to make his stuff sound as clean and clear as possible.

You see , when I say , Its the engineer's job to handle the overall sound. I really meant the sound ,not the feel and the arrangement of the song #check mate*

1. Yes, it will happen that way. To be totally honest with you, it IS already happening that way (I will explain that in my next post to g-e-c. ;)

2. The reason it-only-suits-one-frame-of-mind is because you (and other people in America) only hear that type of music in the clubs. But….. In every other country around the world you will hear House/Dance music all day and night long on the radio. You have to remember that in the not to distant past, there wasn’t any Hip-Hop, let alone Hip-Hop played on the radio. Hell., back-in-the-day, that’s all you would listen to when you were gettin’ down’ wit’ cha’ girl was some good dance music or some disco. Plus, the artists you mentioned and some of the venues (raves) they play are considered Techno/Progressive/Trance oriented. There are plenty of genre’s of House music, (ie; Vocal, Electronic, Soulful, Ghetto, Filtered, Gospel, Commercial, 80’s Electro, Garage, etc……).

3. Refer to the end of #2. ;)

4.That is sooooooooooooo untrue. There are a myriad of House artists that go platinum. One of my very close friends, Paul Johnson (from the Far-Southside of Chicago), went platinum from one 12” record named ‘Get Down’, and that was just from his sales in France.

5. The change is coming, and they are trying to get the population acclimated with hearing house music on a daily basis (just listen to the bulk of music playing in the background of these commercials on telvision, the bulk of these kids videos, and the video games on XBOX-PS2-Game Cube ). Heck, the majority of the House music videos ARE cartoons. What do you think younger kids enjoy watching?……….. Cartoons. J

Peace…..

1. Refer to #4.

2. You make a lot of assumptions huh? BTW, I never have put on any disco or house music when getting down with my girl (unless we were rolling). Maybe if you deal with hookers that would be the choice of background music.

The artist I mentioned, although do other types as well, do progressive house music.

3. N/A

4. Well that's a bit misleading. Here's some info FYI:
Specifications for French awards:
For albums: gold = 100,000, platinum = 300,000, diamond = 1M
For singles: silver = 125,000, gold = 250,000, platinum = 500,000, diamond = 750,000

5. This is a bit jumbled. What do cartoons have to do with house becoming the next big musical genre? So house music is featured on commercials and vide games, hmmm....could that be because the artists are realizing outlets for their music are limited so they are taking alternative routes. Moby anybody?

:)

It's cool. stray411. We all are not supposed to agree on everything. That's what makes life GREAT (different views, outllooks, and opinions).

Please, do not take offense to my next post. OK?

1. I wasn’t sure about which #4 you were talking about???? I need you to rephrase the answer. ;)

2. Well, of course, you probably weren’t listening to house music. You are from a different region in the United States. In Chicago, they would play house music on the highest wattage station in the city (WBMX 102.7FM).
Plus, I’m sure we are not the same age (I’m 34 years old, all of friends and girlfriends, back in the day, were at least 2 years older than me).
Also. In the mid 80’s, the larger radio stations were not playing rap music. They were playing stuff like Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Roxanne Roxanne, etc. On, the East Coast you probably heard a TON of Hip-Hop on the radio. H*ll, you had Ultramagnetic, Eric B. and Rakim, BDP, Masters of Ceromony, , JVC Force, etc… But, here in Chicago, only the college radio stations would play that type of music.
Futhermore, people were not doing “X” in the early 80’s, so you and your girl would probably be drunk and or high off of some weed listening to some phat *ss house music.
You must remember that I started spinning wax when mixing first started, 1982. The ONLY music you could spin was HOUSE music. There was no progressive, trance, garage etc….. There weren’t any turntablists or beat jugglers. There wasn't anything called a flare or crab scratch.

Where did the reference to me dealing with hookers come from??????
(Mon frère je suis la crème de la creme. Chacun dans ma vie après et présent sont le meilleur du meilleur!)

3. I’m just saying that there are now different types of house music to evoke different and multiple feelings in people .

4. Stray411, music is my life, period. When I tell you that my good friend Paul Johnson sold a million units……………………. He sold a million units.

5. I will try to explain this to you one time, even though I honestly doubt that you will truly encompass what I’m sharing with you.
One aspect is ACCLIMATION, another aspect is ASSOCIATION, and another aspect is LONGEVITY.
Who do you think are the future consumers? The kids are the future consumers. If you get them hooked from an early age, they will be hooked for life and they will be a loyal consumer base.
Now if you get them hooked from a young age and you continue to bombard them over the years as they grow they also become life long costumers. Plus, they are being enticed for years through multiple senses sight (video games, cartoons, girls at the party, girls at the club, new interactive sex DVD’s, etc), sound (self explanatory), touch (the things that they were doing when they were listening to the music), smell (eating snack food when playing video games, smelling alcohol while at the club). I could go on and on for days…..
hmmm....could that be because the artists are realizing outlets for their music are limited so they are taking alternative routes.
Let me ask you another question stray411. Why do you think these well known ADULT actors perform in kids movies? They don’t do it because they are lacking for work or money. They know that in acting in these movies they will have a new generation of followers.
Plus, you can’t go wrong with that dedicated audience. It’ll give you another 20 to 30 years on your career, it doesn’t matter if you are an actor or a musician.

Ok, I’ve rambled on enough and I haven’t proofread this post. So, I‘ll holla’ at cha’ later.

Peace…

Post Script. I am not trying to start a big argument with ya’, stray411. But, I know what I see happening (in terms of the change in music)…………. :D J

Spin,

First I think I need to rephrase a statment. "Maybe if someone deals with hookers that would be the choice of background music." I didn't intend that statement to mean that you deal with hookers, I used the word "you" in the general sense of the word. I sincerely hope that didn't offend you because that was not my intent. I didn't take French in high-school so I have no idea as to the rest of the statement.

1. The answer to #4 was in reference to your statement regarding your friend going platinum in France. The info I posted outlined what is considered platinum in France (500,000). I said this was misleading because platinum in the States is of course 1 million.

2. I'm only 25 so I definitely wasn't having sex in the early 80s.

3. I won't say that isn't possible, but from what I've heard (albeit limited) that isn't the case.

4. Spin, music is my life period. Has been for as long as I can recall. You, however, never said 1 million, you said platinum. Refer to #1.

5. Why do you doubt that I could encompass this? Am I stupid, too young, please clarify. Your statment here is possibly one of the most inciteful I've read in this forum. It makes a lot of sense. But, if we're talking about the kids how will this revolution happen anytime soon?

I'm not into movies or the film industry so I can't really answer your question. But I'd like to see some examples of what you're talking about because I can't think of any.

To sum this all up, I will revert to my initial statement. I HOPE this revolution doesn't happen anytime soon. Again you maybe 100% correct, but I hope not.

Hopefully, there are no hard feelings, I know I don't have any towards you.

I just tried to reply to your last thread. I typed out a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNGGGGGG ASS popsitive response to your post. And, of course, my response erased out of the HR.COM reply field. So, I'll have to post it later on today (I have to go to the studio, right now.) :(

Peace, stray411. I'll holla' at cha' later on today (with the response to your post). :D

a. Everything is fine and dandy. I wasn’t sure if you were directing the statement directly towards me or if it was just a generalized statement. You set the record straight. So, no-harm-no foul. ;)

Mon frère je suis la crème de la creme. Chacun dans ma vie après et présent sont le meilleur du meilleur!
My brother, I am the cream of the cream (top of the top). Everyone I associate with past and present are also the best of the best.

b. We’re cool on this point. We were just unclear on what each other was trying to convey. ;)

c. Point documented. :D

d. Well, we can agree to disagree. J Maybe, I can FedEx you some of my DJ Spin “live” set CD’s. That might persuade you to feel otherwise? J

e. You are right. I stand corrected. ;)

f. I apologize for making statements that were condescending towards your intellect. I should not have inferred or made implications to the perception and comprehension of your mental facilities. Once again, I apologize.

g. I’ll try to name a few……………

Tim Allen from ‘Home Improvement” starring in “Santa Claus’ 1 and ‘Santa Claus’ 2.

Arnold “Terminator” Schwarz nagger (sp???????) in ‘Kindergarten Cop’ and the other movie where he was trying to get the action figure for his child from ‘Sinbad’ the comedian (I can’t remember the name of that movie).

Eddie Murphy as the voice in a TON of cartoon movies ( Shrek, Osmosis Jones, etc….).

That’s just a few. I’m not a big “movie” person. L

h. But then again, you may be 100% correct. It is just our own $.02 on the matter. Hell, we both might be correct. J

i. There are absolutely no hard feelings between yourself and myself. Actually, it was a good thing, to go the extra distance to prove our points. You are a worthy opponent, my brother. :D

Peace and goodwill, stray411.

Ciao………….

Spin,

I'm glad to hear we're cool on this. You're point on movie actors is an excellent one and your examples clarify your point, thanks.

I appreciate your offer, but I don't want to put you through the trouble of sending me material. If possible though, can you point me to some artists I can check out?

Thanks again Spin,
