Hello home recording, I'm really new to this and have a verrryyyy beginner set upp but please bare with me because it is all I can afford and I am actually 15.

And please, although I'm young, I really love music and want a serious answer to my question thats bit troubling.

So my set up is simply an audio interface (lexicon alpha), nady smps-1 phantom power, mxl 990/991.

However, I get white noise that really bothers. As usual, I suspected the phantom power, but I replaced it to find that there was STILL WHITE NOISE. So this problem has been frustrating me for awhile..
Also, I used a shure sm58 (w/o the phantom power) and it works perfectly fine.

So I guess my main question is how to get rid of this white noise without wasting too much money because my job is not a very high paying one.
Also, if it isnt much trouble, naming specific models that i should buy would tremendously help me..

Thank you for reading!

White noise is a scientifically defined thing whereas what you are hearing is probably better described as "hiss". Phantom power is DC which is unlikely to be related to noise in general, though the Nady may be cheap enough to cause the problem. All mics have some self noise, but I'd be surprised if even cheap mics like the MXLs have so much that it is as noticeable as you indicate. Are you absolutely sure there isn't a source of real acoustic noise that the mics are picking up? Condensers are more prone to that than dynamics due to their more extended response.

Try connecting the SM58 through the phantom power supply just like you do the MXL. It won't hurt it, and if it gets the same noise as the condensers you can probably blame the Nady.

Could you post a link to an example of the noise? (You have to have 10 posts to put an active link up, but I think you can put it up as plain text.)

Before you start blaming equipment, be sure the noise is not coming from your room, computer, ventilation, fridge, neighbors, etc. The Nady will be much more susceptible to room noise than the 58.

well i tried plugging in the shure sm58 and it was perfectly fine with the phantom power
which means the phantom power is not the culprit.. correct..?
soo i trried to plug in the mxl but i tried plenty of things and really cant seem to find the origin of what could produce white noise
