Which upgrade path do you recommend?

I am currently running Guitar Studio 2.0 and want to upgrade to 24 bit recording. So, do I choose guitar tracks Pro or Home Studio 2002?

My normal recording process, never requires more that 2 inputs, - because (like most) its a solo effort, - just me and my guitars.

My current audio card is the 16 bit DMAN PCI (from MAUDIO/MIDIMAN) and has a Roland wavetable, which I have used for midi drums with session drummer.

It looks like I will get the Echo Mia 24/96 card, - which has no midi.

Both GTPro and HS2002 support 24/96 recording, right?
I already have Audio FX-1 (which is also included w/ HS XL)...so I think it all comes down to which package has the best drum capability?

GTPro has no midi and bundles a lite version of Fruity, and I don't know much about HS2002, it has session drummer, but what do I use for a wavetable/samples?

Anything else that I should be considering?

Funny, how Cakewalk makes you dig for the most important specification!

...its looking like GTPro

...24/48 maybe be OK, but I'll never know, if I go with HS2002...

Before you part with your $$$, you might just like to consider why you are intending to record at 24/96. 24/96K uses one hell of a lot of diskspace and for what benefit? Once you export to Wav, will you be able to tell the difference between 24/48 and 24/96? I can't and I know many others who can't either.
 
I agree with Paul here. If I were you I'd invest the $$ in Sonar 2.1.

HS2002 gives you the ability to record midi as well as audio. Good for synth work. You should be able to upgrade, its a superb package.

Sonar gives you a lot more fx and tools. If you check out the Cakewalk web site, there ius a chart there that lays all the differences for you. IMHO, I think you might be better off going for HS2002 and then upgrading to Sonar later, if you need to.

24/96 has more top end bite, the difference is more audible when micing something such as vocals. Also if u use plug-in 24/96 sounds more open and less muddy or veiled then 48 or 44.1

all in all things seem to sit better in the mix in 24/96 but this can also be due to me gettin better as a mixer...
 
Teacher, if ya can hear that much difference, I have total respek for ya ears and gear man.:)
 
what i'm hearing also can be me just becoming a better mixer

but the vocals do have more high frequencies, alot less high frequency boost to "air out" the vocals..at least thats how it sounds to me...i didn't do any mathematical equation or whatever to figure it out:) also reverb sounds way better at 96 then 44.1
